21 Jun 05. PureDepth, the developer of the world’s only Multi-Layer Display(TM) (MLD) technology, and DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:DRS – News) announced today they have signed a five-year license agreement that allows DRS to exclusively manufacture, market and supply advanced display systems to its Army and Navy customers. DRS will have exclusive rights to the MLD(TM) technology within this industry sector, and both companies plan on joint development efforts utilizing the core MLD(TM) technology for advanced situational awareness and other military purposes.

22 Jun 05. Ericsson and TeliaSonera International Carrier have signed a contract
for the delivery of Ericsson’s Telephony Softswitch, enabling
TeliaSonera International Carrier to offer advanced voice, data, and
multimedia services over an all-IP platform. Under the agreement, Ericsson will upgrade TeliaSonera International Carrier’s Voice network from circuit-switched technology to Ericsson’s IP based Telephony Softswitch solution.

Jun 05. Praxis High Integrity Systems – a world-leading company providing products and services for the engineering of high integrity systems – and Esterel Technologies – a world-leading supplier of model based-design, validation, and verification tools for safety-critical embedded software applications – announce their collaboration to combine the SPARK toolset from Praxis HIS with the SCADE Suite toolset from Esterel Technologies. This tool integration will combine SCADE Suite’s safe design capture, simulation, formal design verification, with the widely used SPARK programming language and associated analysis tool, the SPARK Examiner. By combining the best in modelling, code generation and language-based analysis, this integration will effectively enable rapid development that is in full compliance with Defence Standard 00-56 objectives and other demanding standards.

21 Jun 05. Continuing to respond to customer demand for software defined radio (SDR) products that deliver power, user programmability and ease of integration, ICS (Interactive Circuits & Systems) – part of Radstone Embedded Computing – today announced the ICS-1580 baseband processing engine. Launched at UDT Europe 2005 the ICS-1580 is designed for the high data rate, computationally intensive applications common in software defined radio systems. Featuring a user programmable Xilinx Virtex II Pro FPGA surrounded with memory and high-speed data I/O, the ICS-1580 includes four banks of SDRAM memory, four banks of high-speed QDRII SRAM, and two 128 Mbit flash memory devices. For data I/O, legacy systems can rely on the 64/66 PCI interface, while more modern applications can make use of the ICS-1580A’s high-speed serial switched fabric capabilities, which provide aggregate bandwidth of 25 Gbits/second. Built in the industry standard PMC form factor, the ICS-1580 allows cutting edge FPGA-based processing power to be added to any host equipped with a PMC site. Alternatively, elegant, high-performance data acquisition and processing systems can be quickly deployed by combining the ICS-1580 with existing SDR modules such as the ICS-554, 564, or 572. The 400 MHz Power PCs (embedded in the Virtex II FPGA) run a pre-installed TimeSys Linux kernel, allowing remote systems to operate autonomously, and the ICS-supplied EDK/HDK enable rapid development and shorter time to market.

22 Jun 05. Liberty Aerospace of Melbourne, Florida, today announced that it has received Type Inspection Authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration for Instrument Flight Rules operation of its single engine XL2 aircraft. The XL2 is currently certified under FAR Part 23 for Visual Flight Rules day and night operations only. The Liberty XL2 aircraft has been designed to meet the growing demand for a new generation, advanced two seat aircraft. It is the only production aircraft powered by a piston engine
