17 Jan 12. Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions (CWCDS) introduced the RME9XC, a new 12-slot 9U-high development chassis designed to ease the design of 3U OpenVPX™ based systems. This air-cooled enclosure supports up to 12-slots of 3U 1″ pitch payload OpenVPX cards and rear transition modules. Designed to satisfy the most extreme cooling requirements for 3U OpenVPX systems, the rackmount RME9XC chassis meets stringent ANSI/VITA 65 power and cooling requirements for air-cooled 75W 3U OpenVPX modules, delivering >18 CFM per slot with high-pressure 3U OpenVPX payload. The RME9XC supports OpenVPX backplanes with high-speed Gen2 switch fabric data rates up to 6.25 Gbaud. 2600 Watt power supply configurations are available for both 12V-centric and 5V-centric payload for development use. The RME9XC chassis are the newest member of Defense Solutions’ Hybricon® family of advanced COTS electronic packaging solutions. These rack mount-style enclosures support power supplies up to 2600W and provide the level of cooling required to ensure optimal performance for the most demanding high power 3U OpenVPX applications.
“These chassis are designed to support the development of the most challenging in-the-field small form factor OpenVPX-based high performance applications,” said Lynn Bamford, senior vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions group. “With cooling capacity exceeding 75W per slot, the RME9XC is an ideal lab chassis for system integrators who want to deploy highly integrated advanced processor systems in harsh SWaP-constrained military environments.”
The RME9XC measures 15.69″ (9U) high, 18.96” wide, and 19.53” deep and weighs 77 lbs. The card cage is constructed of precision grade aluminum and utilizes (patented) Hybricon® brand CoolSlot® card guides to provide uniform air flow distribution.

17 Jan 12. Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions (CWCDS), introduced the RME13CC, a new 16-slot 13U-high chassis designed to ease the design of 6U OpenVPX™ based systems. This forced air conduction-cooled enclosure supports up to 16-slots of 6U 1″ pitch payload OpenVPX cards and rear transition modules. Designed to satisfy the most extreme cooling requirements for 6U OpenVPX systems, the rackmount RME13CC chassis meets stringent ANSI/VITA 65 power and cooling requirements for conduction-cooled 150W 6U OpenVPX modules. The RME13CC supports OpenVPX backplanes for high-speed Gen2 switch fabric data rates up to 6.25 Gbaud. Power supply configurations supplying up to 3750W are available for both 12V and 5V payload forced air conduction-cooled enclosures for the development of rugged deployed military embedded systems. The RME13CC chassis are the newest member of Defense Solutions’ Hybricon® family of advanced COTS electronic packaging solutions targeting challenging OpenVPX payloads. These rack mount-style enclosures support power supplies up to 3750W and provide levels of cooling required to ensure optimal performance for the most demanding high power conduction-cooled OpenVPX applications.

17 Jan 12. Smiths Detection has unveiled a next-generation chemical threat detector that combines high speed, high-resolution gas chromatography (GC) and a miniaturized toroidal ion trap mass spectrometer (MS) in a portable device. “GUARDION’s combination of trusted GC/MS technology and ground-breaking portability makes it the go-to solution when rapid chemical identification is needed to save lives and limit exposure impact. It also greatly expands our portfolio of CBRNE detection technologies, allowing armed forces and emergency responders to turn situational awareness into situational certainty.” The revolutionary GUARDION™, which greatly enhances military and emergency response capabilities in the field, can confirm
