15 Apr 11. Thales Nederland has developed a new evolution of the STIR naval radar and electro-optical (EO) fire control package, which is now able to provide gun and missile guidance. The new iteration, known as STIR 1.2 EO Mk 2, could essentially be seen as a counter to Selex Sistemi Integrati’s NA30 and Saab’s Ceros 200, which both already offer target illumination. 26 Apr 11. GE Intelligent Platforms announced the fully managed NETernity™ GBX460 rugged 6U OpenVPX data plane switch module featuring GE’s unique OpenWare™ switch management capability. The GBX460 is GE’s latest offering in a range of high density 10GigE solutions targeted at demanding high performance computing (HPC) and networking applications such as communications, ISR and radar. GE now offers customers a choice between the fully managed GBX460 with the flexibility, versatility and functionality provided by the OpenWare suite of protocols and switch management software, or the outstanding time-to-operation of the unmanaged version. The GBX460 with OpenWare supports high throughput interprocessor communication (IPC) between 10GigE-enabled processing nodes for deployed network-centric defense and aerospace applications. Its non-blocking 10GigE ports provide high performance throughput across the VPX backplane; the non-blocking feature means that the GBX460 can pass traffic across all 10GigE ports at wire speed without bottlenecks. The GBX460 with OpenWare supports features required by customers to meet the needs of next generation network-centric operations: Layer 2/3 switching and routing, including support for IPv6 addressing; extensive management for configuration and protocol options; and the ability to customize the software to meet specific application requirements.
25 Apr 11. TE Connectivity (TE) introduces the Quadrax D-Sub style connector for military and commercial aerospace environments. The new connector was designed to provide a gigabit Ethernet solution in an industry standard D-Sub platform, while offering superior shielding performance. The Quadrax D-Sub style connector was created to meet the high-speed data rate needs in commercial avionics, aircraft data networks, in-flight entertainment systems and military communications applications. The rugged metal shell construction provides four Quadrax connections in a size 3 shell with a 0.5” x 2.0” window, and supports both cable-to-cable and cable-to-board configurations. It serves as a low-profile alternative to the Circular 38999 Style Connectors, providing the perfect solution for cable-to-PWB high-speed interconnect. The easy-to-assemble connector features cable applied plug and receptacle, along with Right Angle PCB Mount receptacle. It a
