20 Apr 10. Airbus Military has completed all the flight tests required for the daylight certification of the new generation hose-and drogue refuelling system on the A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT). This paves the way towards the formal military certification of the system from Spain’s INTA certification authority this summer. The A330 MRTTT is fitted with the Cobham 905 system, which provides refuelling from under-wing pods. It is the most advanced hose and drogue refuelling system currently available. Testing covered all of the flight envelope required to certify the aircraft handling qualities with the hose-and-drogue deployed, and included a wide range of manoeuvres both in free-flight and in coupled mode with Spanish Air Force F-18 fighters.

20 Apr 10. The US Army is developing an optionally piloted demonstrator Black Hawk helicopter in collaboration with Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. Sikorsky Innovations Director Chris Van Buiten said the technology would provide commanders with manning options based on the mission and tactical situation, and significantly reduce crew limitations while increasing Black Hawk helicopter flight operations. Sikorsky says it will fly the optionally piloted demonstrator aircraft this year and introduce the optionally piloted aircraft in 2015. More than 3,000 Black Hawk helicopters are in use today as utility tactical transport helicopters that can also provide air assault, aeromedical evacuation, command and control, and special operations support. Apr 10. Intelligent Image Processing. Drawing on its extensive experience in image processing, Plextek is working on a number of new projects employing advanced image processing and data compression techniques. These enable enhanced video system functionality at competitive price points. Application areas include integrated radar & video system surveillance, people/object tracking, motorway hazard identification and 3D feature detection. One project provides simultaneous scene and region-of-interest zoom views from the same camera, with appropriate compression and data coding to allow transmission over existing video networks and low-bit rate links. The aim is to save cost by providing improved system performance without necessarily having to upgrade existing transmission infrastructure. Other projects include vehicle tracking for motorways to highlight potential incident situations, 3D processing for biometric and medical measurements and low-latency imaging for safety critical applications.

21 Apr 10. Systematic Development Group today announced the launch of LOK-IT Secure Flash Drive, a USB flash drive with security technology that’s unprecedented in the marketplace to
