09 Mar 10. Slovakia begins roll out of BKRS digitisation.Slovakia’s army has accepted the first components of its new BKRS (Bojovy komunikacny radiovy system) integrated combat communications system, which functions over standard NATO VHF-FM and HF links at its lower levels. The first two platforms to be outfitted are the mechanised platoon- and company-commander variants of the BVP-2 infantry fighting vehicle, a locally produced version of the BMP-2, following successful trials with the various BKRS subsystems in the third quarter of 2009. 17 Mar 10. GE Intelligent Platforms today announced the IMP3A, a 3U CompactPCI single board computer featuring the latest dual core QorIQ™ processor technology from Freescale™. The IMP3A takes advantage of the QorIQ P2020 processor to deliver dual core performance in a single core power envelope: the P2020 offers superior power consumption/heat dissipation compared to previous generations of high performance Power Architecture™ processors, making it ideally suited to small form factors such as 3U CompactPCI. By coupling the P2020 with an extensive range of memory resources and I/O features, and implementing new features such as SATA and NAND Flash memory, the IMP3A offers innovative technologies for programs committed to the 3U CompactPCI architecture as well as a highly cost-effective technology insertion opportunity for GE’s existing IMP1A/IMP2A customers. A typical application would see the IMP3A deployed as part of a control system onboard a tank, armored vehicle or helicopter.
15 Mar 10.General Dynamics Itronix introduces the new GDAssure(TM) Solution Validation and Installation Certification Program that evaluates and certifies that a customer’s rugged computer, software and peripherals operate as they are
intended in a simulated day-to-day operating environment. The GDAssure
program reduces the time and costs associated with a computer system that,
once installed, fails to operate correctly. The program assembles a team of engineers, system architects and others who test and evaluate various aspects of a system’s configuration and performance. An analysis might include the evaluation of wireless accessories including printers, bar code scanners, GPS modules, operating software and mounting hardware for vehicle installations. Testing can also incorporate vibration, shock, drop, extreme operating temperatures and other tests based on a system’s configuration and operating environment. The final analysis documents the components that worked as intended and those that need to be re-evaluated.
