04 Jun 09. Hobson Industries launch LiveTime. In the mid 1990’s when advanced stock control and labour force time recording systems were few and far between, Hobson Industries developed their own futuristic systems in-house using bar code scanning and hand held data capture devices long before they caught on in the mainstream.
“We saw the need for a new logistic IT system to develop our Asset Managed part business.” Peter Hobson, Managing Director of Hobson Industries said. “We conducted a market survey and found that there was nothing which could meet our stringent requirements. We commissioned Jim Worley, BSc (Hons), a local IT expert to develop a system from scratch which would include parts categories – necessary to reflect the parts status. Jim is now our in-house IT consultant. The system that evolved over time became known as ‘HIIS’ – ‘Hobson Industries Information System’ and now encompasses job costing, project costing, stock control, employee time recording, personnel functionality and reporting modules amongst others. Our parts supply business, particularly to the MoD, has grown rapidly over the past few years and we are now working on the next version of HIIS which we have named LiveTime. We have already gained our first sale and will be actively marketing the system through software re-sale vendors.”
The system gathers information that gives Hobson Industries the ability to trace exactly who worked on their vehicles and assemblies, when – and what parts were put into them from which supplier. Full traceability, the Holy Grail of many much larger manufacturers, has long been a reality at Hobson Industries. There is really nothing in the market at present that provides real-time time recording in quite the same way. The system is fast, user friendly and reliable – essential attributes in making any system accessible and successful. The system is marketed under the LiveTime banner. AML UK Ltd., the U.K. armouring specialist is the launch customer for LiveTime. AML UK has purchased the Time Recording module of LiveTime which will be fine tuned to AML’s requirements by Jim Worley.
James Purves of AML UK said, “We were looking for a new software package in 2007 and first saw LiveTime during a visit to Hobsons that year. After a demonstration from Jim, we saw that it was exactly the system we required to streamline our processes. It was far ahead of any other product on the market.”
The LiveTime Time Recording module will be installed on multiple workstations around the AML UK site as they are at Hobson Industries. Workers will be able to select the works order they are currently working on, and then select the activity to be performed, for example ‘Milling’ or ‘
