15 Jun 17. Varley Group Awarded $37.5m to Build Portable Ground Facilities for F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program in Australia. Initial launch in Australia to showcase shelters for U.S. and other Allied Fighter Programs.
DC-based Varley USA, announced its parent company, Varley Group, is partnering with Lockheed Martin to design and develop secure, portable ground facilities for Air Force personnel deployed overseas with the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. The award, worth $37.5m dollars will run through 2019.
The deployable ground facilities can expand to three times the size of a shipping container and will be capable of supporting F-35 missions by housing the aircraft’s support system – the Autonomic Logistics Information System (ALIS) – and house all support personnel for the program. The F-35’s ALIS provides the off-board information system hardware, software and data that performs maintenance management; fault diagnostic; supply support; mission planning; and training management.
“These new, portable cabins will be a vital part to F-35 operational capability and will ensure our allies’ top-secret systems and personnel who support these airframes will be securely housed and protected,” said Matt Hederstrom, CEO of Varley USA. “Once we have shown success with the Australian F-35 program, we expect to see demand takeoff for our portable facilities in the U.S. and around the world.”
The portable cabins will also be capable of holding the off-board system that will be used across the F-35A, F/A-18F Super Hornet, E/A-18 Growler and P-8 Poseidon airframes.
