02 Mar 17. Czech MoD announces plans to buy about 700 new light vehicles. The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced plans on 28 February to issue a public tender to replace about 700 light 4×4 vehicles in service with the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR), starting in 2020.
The MoD is seeking to replace Russian-made UAZ and British Land Rover Defender vehicles that have been in service with the ACR for over 20-30 years, but would also like to select a replacement for 115 Iveco LMV lightly armoured 4×4 vehicles in service with the ACR since 2008.
“We want to be prepared for the replacement process that must begin in 2020 and do not want to find ourselves in a situation where we would be forced to procure something quickly under pressure,” Czech defence minister Martin Stropnicky told media on 28 February while attending a vehicle demonstration event at the ACR’s Vyskov testing facility.
