Web Page sponsored by MILLBROOK

Millbrook, based in Bedfordshire, UK, makes a significant contribution to the quality and performance of military vehicles worldwide. Its specialist expertise is focussed in two distinct areas: test programmes to help armed services and their suppliers ensure that their vehicles and systems work as the specification requires; and design and build work to upgrade new or existing vehicles, evaluate vehicle capability and investigate in-service failures. Complementing these is driver and service training and a hospitality business that allows customers to use selected areas of Millbrook’s remarkable facilities for demonstrations and exhibitions.

16 Apr 09. The Finnish government has sought clarification from Slovenia
regarding the status of a $368m deal for armored vehicles and weapons the Ljubljana government signed with Patria in 2006. The move follows remarks made by Matej Lahovnik, Slovenia’s economics minister,
that the country may cancel its order for Armored Modular Vehicles (AMVs) due to “technical problems and other associated issues.” Lahovnik’s comments were reported in the Slovenian newspaper Delo, which quoted
the minister as saying that the Slovenian government is mulling “canceling the contract with Patria over quality concerns.” Finnish company Patria is playing down the minister’s comments. “The media reports that are coming out of Slovenia are mere speculation,” said Seppo Seppälä, the head of Patria’s Armor Unit. Patria has rejected any suggestion that defects have been found in the first 13 armored vehicles scheduled to be delivered to the Slovenian Armed Forces. The inter-state dialogue takes place against a backdrop of official police inquiries in Finland and Slovenia into unconfirmed allegations that bribes were
paid to secure the 135-vehicle contract in 2006. According to Delo, Lahovnik said that technical tests had highlighted “defects and other quality issues” relating to some of the first AMVs slated for delivery. “Due to the defects, the AMVs did not pass quality tests, and they are
not in service with the armed forces,” Lahovnik said, according to Delo.
On March 26, Slovenia’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) raided the homes of several suspects involved in the alleged bribery affair. The BCI, which is working with Finnish and Austrian police authorities under a trilateral investigation, suspects that monies arising from the alleged bribery may have been routed through banks in Austria.
