30 Oct 08. Urgent needs in Iraq and Afghanistan call for extraordinary measures and Navistar Defense, LLC answers the call by utilizing its Parts Group and engineering expertise for strong sustainment of its International(r) MaxxPro(tm) Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. Today, the U.S. Marine Corps awarded the company two contracts totaling more than $64.7 for parts and vehicle enhancements. “Our close collaboration with the U.S. military allows us to rapidly provide the government with vehicle enhancements so our troops can continue to complete their missions safely,” said Archie Massicotte, president, Navistar Defense. “Navistar’s Parts Group and engineering teams add tremendous value to the strong sustainment of MaxxPro vehicles.” The contracts, one for $56.4 million and another for $8.3 million, are fixed-price modifications to the original contract awarded to Navistar in May 2007 for parts support and vehicle enhancements to be completed by the end of November, 2008. Vehicle upgrades include engineering changes to mechanical systems and performance upgrades.

Nov 08. Porche to make an offer for Scania?News service just-auto.com reports that Sweden’s Financial Supervisory Authority says the country’s takeover rules mean that Porsche would need to make an offer for Scania if its stake in Volkswagen rises above 50%. VW is Scania’s biggest shareholder with 37.73% of the firm’s shares and 68.60% of votes. (Source: Transport News Brief)

30 Oct 08. On 29 October 2008 three awards were made for the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) Technology Development Phase for a total of $166m Government cost. BAE Systems Land & Armaments, Ground Systems Division, Santa Clara, CA was awarded a $73,923,833 cost share contract (Government Share: $58,547,676; Contractor Share: $15,376,157) [Contract W56HZV-09-C-0107*]. General Tactical Vehicles, Sterling Heights, MI, a joint venture between General Dynamics Land Systems and AM General, was awarded a $117,000,000 cost share contract (Government Share: $58,500,000; Contractor Share: $58,500,000) [Contract W56HZV-09-C-0108*]. Lockheed Martin Systems Integration, Owego, NY was awarded a $48,857,561 cost plus fixed fee contract [Contract W56HZV-09-C-0109*]. The 27 month contracts were awarded by formal source selection procedures. Selection was based on the criteria contained in the RFP. The contracts are incrementally funded with initial funding at approximately $40m each for a total of $120m funded out of the $166m total cost to the Government. The balance of the funding up to the full dollar amount for each contractor will be provided in FY09 and FY10. *Contract numbers have been changed to reflect fiscal year of award as follows: from W56HZV-08-C-0426 to W56HZV-09-C-0107; W56HZV-08-C-0430 to W56HZV-09-C-0108; and W56HZV-08-C-0431 to W56HZV-09-C-0109.

03 Nov 08. Italy has selected the 2R2M1 120 mm mortar made by Thales as fire support for its motorized and mechanized units. In accordance with the contract, signed early October 2008, these systems will be delivered to Otomelara2 for qualification on VBM wheeled vehicles. After its recent selection by two middle eastern countries, the 2R2M demonstrates again its full suitability to current needs of the armed forces. With its compact design, the 2R2M mortar can be integrated in all light armored vehicles without requiring any structural alterations.
