30 Nov 11. General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems division (GA-EMS) recently completed expansion and start-up of a 6,250 square foot advanced vacuum pressure impregnation and motor winding facility at its manufacturing and test site in Tupelo, Miss. The facility includes a 9 ft diameter vacuum-pressure resin chamber, multiple vacuum storage tanks to utilize several different resin systems, and heating/curing ovens. With this equipment GA-EMS is qualifying to be a U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA)-certified supplier of “Electric Motor Sealed Insulation Systems” to Mil-Std-2037 (Random Wound, Form Wound and Salient Pole Motors) as well as preparing to assemble formed coil electrical motors with frame sizes up to 104 inches in diameter or 78 inches square. In addition, GA-EMS will utilize its own proprietary insulating system used on Industrial and Commercial Motor Applications. (Source: ASD Network)

Santa Clara, California. The newly expanded, state-of-the-art data-center campus now features a total of approximately 100,000 square feet of raised floor space. 02 Dec 11. EU foreign affairs ministers are considering using a civil-military headquarters in Brussels for small-scale operations off the Horn of Africa. In conclusions to their meeting here Dec. 1, they say they have agreed “to accelerate planning for the activation of an EU Civil-Military Operations Centre for Horn of Africa operations, at the latest by the next Foreign Affairs Council.” (Source: Defense News)

02 Dec 11. The Seychelles invited Beijing to set up a military base on the archipelago to beef up the fight against piracy there, Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam said. The declaration came Dec. 2 as Gen. Liang Guanglie is making the first-ever visit by a Chinese defense minister to the Indian Ocean island state. (Source: Defense News)

02 Dec 11. Lockheed Martin UK has officially opened its first Security Intelligence Centre (SIC) at Farnborough, extending its global reach and augmenting facilities in the United States. The Centre was opened today by Gerald Howarth MP, Minister for International Security Strategy.
The £2.5m investment in UK facilities will strengthen Lockheed Martin’s Intelligence driven computer network defence and ability to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving and persistent threats in cyber space. The role of the SIC will be detection, identification and response to information security incidents. This is accomplished by bringing together three primary capabilities: pervasive sensors, data management and analyst collaboration. It will be manned by a team of highly skilled and trained cyber intelligence analysts who hold UK passports. They will integrate into Lockheed Martin’s global computer network defence, while developing their own intrinsic strengths, and contribute to an active global exchange in cyber capability and tradecraft. Cyber attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated and persistent. So far, Lockheed Martin is demonstrating success in countering this threat.
