16 May 11. Curtiss-Wright Corporation celebrated the grand opening of its $36m, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chambers County, TX. At this new facility, the company will manufacture large vessels and other equipment for the refining and petrochemical industries and will produce large valve products for the severe service process industries. Curtiss-Wright began construction of the new facility, operated by the company’s Flow Control segment, in September 2010 and completed it on time and on budget. The facility houses some of the most modern machining and fabrication equipment available in the industry. To date, the company has already booked $17m in new orders for this facility. The facility covers over 12 acres of property and includes 118,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Key features include one of the largest, fully enclosed blasting and paint facilities in the U.S., refractory installation, superior material handling and convenient barge transportation. This expansion will create about 100 jobs, from engineering positions to skilled welders and fitters. Curtiss-Wright currently employs 255 employees in the Houston area. Unlike other valve manufacturers, Curtiss-Wright is the only single source provider of a turnkey package of slide valves, actuators, power skid units, field service, Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) equipment, reactors and large diameter pressure vessels.

24 May 11. HMS Bulwark, 15 Wharf, HMNB Devonport Plymouth. A tri-Service purpose-built £20m new centre for the rehabilitation of military personnel is planned for HM Naval Base Devonport, Plymouth. The Ministry of Defence project is funded by Help 4 Heroes and enhances the existing extensive provision for troops with long-term and complex injuries or other conditions. Help for Heroes (H4H) have very generously assisted with a £20m capital build project to surpass the MoD requirement and deliver a completely optimised capability for the use of all service personnel. H4H have committed to delivering the resources to project manage and deliver a new accommodation block and rehabilitation facilities. This optimised capability will be centred on a purpose-built 60 bed accommodation and office facility, a hydrotherapy pool and a new rehabilitation gymnasium. The Naval Service Recovery Pathway and Hasler Company are totally inclusive and tri-Service in approach, accepting personnel from all three services. Although currently, the majority of personnel assigned are Royal Marines. It is anticipated that the H4H expansion project will be complete in July 2012.

14 May 11. UAE-based Tharaa Holding has inked an agreement with the Polish government to redevelop former military site in the eastern European country. Tharaa, through its development company Hadara, will develop land owned by the Military Property Agency of Poland (MPA) under a new memorandum of understanding. The MPA, which has $600m worth of real estate in its portfolio, will also be helped to promote its properties in the Middle East through Tharaa’s brokerage arm RichVille Real Estate. The agreement includes plans to redevelop a 55 hectare plot of land in Poland, about 30km from capital city Warsaw and close to the Vistula river, which is earmarked for a major mixed-used project.
