13 Apr 11. New hi-tech security hub to protect UK businesses opens
MITIE creates 38 jobs with multimillion pound investment in Northern Ireland. The UK’s newest hi-tech security hub, designed to protect some of the world’s largest companies, has opened today in Craigavon, Northern Ireland. MiTec is one of the most advanced security hubs in the UK and will help businesses protect their personnel and premises through a suite of services. These include 24 hour remote monitoring of sites and buildings, lone worker protection and real time vehicle tracking, all with close co-operation with the police and other emergency services. The centre, which has created 38 new jobs in Northern Ireland, has been built by MITIE, a FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing and energy services company, which has itself invested more than £2m in its development. It was officially opened today by Ruby McGregor-Smith, chief executive officer of MITIE, and Alastair Hamilton, chief executive of InvestNI, Northern Ireland’s economic development agency.

26 Apr 11. Astrum’s Middle Eastern customers are enjoying an unparalleled level of service and support. Astrum has established an overseas operation in the United Arab Emirates to better serve the Middle East region, and six months in it is already proving to be a sound decision. Headed up by Keith Atkinson, the Middle East operation is providing an important link between customer and manufacturer. Having worked in the region for several years, Keith Atkinson’s strong network and local knowledge has already secured a number of new contracts and established several key distribution partners. Establishing a Middle Eastern office has already had a positive impact on both customers and Astrum itself. 25 Apr 11. RN Type-42 destroyer HMS Edinburgh and her ship’s company have proved she is ready to fight and take down fast-moving air targets, after successfully firing three Sea Darts. The Portsmouth-based warship fired her principle armaments off the coast of the Outer Hebrides in almost 3,750 sq nautical miles of ocean cleared for the occasion. In addition to their air defence role, the Type 42 destroyers operate independently carrying out patrol and boarding operations, recently carrying out anti-narcotics and anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf, Caribbean, and the South Atlantic as well as providing humanitarian assistance when required.

22 Apr 11. The first Combat Shadow II for the United States Air Force Special Operations Command has completed its first flight at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta. Less than one month after a rollout ceremony for the aircraft s AFSOC customer the MC-130J has begun a series of flight tests prior to delivery to Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., in September. The new aircraft is based on a KC-130J tanker baseline and will have the Enhanced Service Life Wing, Enhanced Cargo Handling System, a Universal Aerial Refueling Receptacle Slipway Installation (boom refuelling receptacle), more powerful electrical generators, an electro-optical/infrared sensor and a combat systems o
