07 Apr 10. Multi-skilled consultancy, WYG, has been appointed by Defence Estates to provide professional and technical support services for property and construction projects under a four-year framework. Defence Estates manage the military estate, including accommodation for service personnel and their families, on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. This Principal Support Provider Contract will cover a wide geographical area under DE Operations North through client offices in Lisburn Barracks Northern Ireland, RAF Lossiemouth, HMNB Faslane and Rosyth in Scotland and Catterick Garrison, Sutton Coldfield and RAF Brampton in England.

Eurocopter and its Helicópteros do Brasil-Helibras affiliate company today marked the construction start-up for a new rotary-wing center of excellence in Itajuba, Brazil, where Helibras will produce, assemble and maintain EC725 helicopters being acquired by the Brazilian armed forces. Production of the EC725 at Itajuba will result in a doubling of production capability for Helibras – which currently assembles Eurocopter AS350 Ecureuil light helicopters, as well as a doubling of its staff, which stands at approximately 300 employees today. It is also to mark a significant contribution to the development of Brazil’s aeronautical industry – bringing new manufacturing and assembly responsibilities to Eurocopter’s Brazilian subsidiary, while also
creating additional business and industrial opportunities for suppliers in the country. Today’s groundbreaking ceremony took place in the presence of Nelson Jobim, the Brazilian Minister of Defense; Aécio Neves, the governor of Minas Gerais; heads of the Brazilian Armed Forces; Eurocopter CEO Lutz Bertling, and Edouardo Marson Ferreira, President of
Helibras and Chairman of EADS Brazil branch.
08 Apr 10. The Republic of Singapore Air Force has launched 149 Squadron, its first local F-15SG unit at Paya Lebar Air Base. The F-15SG Squadron will join the fighter group under the Air Combat Command, which plans, controls and executes air warfare operations. Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Defence Teo Chee Hean said the F-15SG squadron will enhance the Singapore Armed Forces’ (SAF) strength to deal with future threats. The F-15SG multi-role fighter aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art avionics and a sophisticated integrated sensor suite.
Hean said the F-15SG is a major enhancement to Singapore’s air defence

01 Apr 10. Raytheon Company opened its new Soldier Works facility to improve collaboration with military and industry partners in developing new soldier systems and warfighter technologies. Located near Fort Benning, Ga., Soldier Works can employ virtual simulation, human factors engineering and network-experimentation capabilities to design, demonstrate and test force modernization solutions.”Soldier Works provides closer proximity to the soldier, our key military end-user, for demonstration and testing of emerging warfighter systems,” said Glynn Raymer, vice president, Raytheon Network Centric Systems Combat Systems. “As we engineer soldier systems, netted ground-vehicle systems and immersive training solutions, we can now do so with greater efficiency and closer customer collaboration through this versatile facility.””Raytheon views Soldier Works as an investment in innovation, customer relations and the local community,” said Mark Scott, director, Soldier Works, which also serves as a Raytheon field office.With a small full-time staff, the center expects to host annually more than 500 Raytheon employees, partners and customers. These visitors could represent an estimated local economic impact of up to $250,000. Raytheon operates a similar integration center, Gruntworks,
