18 Mar 09. Northrop Grumman Corporation officially openned a new 25,000-square foot suite at 995 Research Park Boulevard, where employees will perform systems engineering and intelligence analysis work supporting the U.S. military.

17 Mar 09. HumiSeal®, has cemented its position as the driving force in conformal coatings by announcing a $1m investment in its research and development capabilities. The company’s two laboratories based in Taunton, Massachusetts, USA and Camberley, Surrey, UK will help secure the ongoing development of next generation coating chemistries as well as strengthening the customer support offering.

18 Mar 09. Parsons Infrastructure & Technology Group, Inc., Pasadena, Calif., is being awarded an estimated $977,374,565 requirements contract with firm-fixed unit prices subject to economic price adjustment. This contract will provide a realistic environment to support a variety of training tasks related to the deployment and maneuverability in an urban setting to enable Marines to conduct training in an environment replicating urban conditions. The Military Operations in Urban Terrain system also allows Marine units to master the challenges of urban navigation, movement, target acquisition and engagement and cross boundary coordination. The training may be performed at any Marine Corp base worldwide, and the work is estimated to be completed March 2014. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This effort was awarded by using a full and open competition. The Marine Corps System Command, Orlando, Fla., is the contracting activity (M67854-09-D-8000).

16 Mar 09. One of the world’s largest defence and aerospace companies, BAE Systems, has announced plans to establish a world class aviation maintenance facility in Nowra if it secures the contract to support the Royal Australian Navy’s Seahawk helicopter fleet. BAE Systems Australia managing director Jim McDowell said the company remained committed to Nowra as the long-term home of its naval helicopter support
operations.“BAE Systems has been providing deeper maintenance support for navy helicopters based out of Nowra since 1993,” Mr McDowell said.
“If we are selected in response to a current tender process, we plan to establish a new helicopter support capability at the Albatross Aviation Technology Park, adjacent to HMAS Albatross.

17 Mar 09. Argentine President Cristina Kirchner announced March 17 she has submitted a bill to re-nationalize an aircraft manufacturer operated by U.S. aeronautics giant Lockheed Martin. Speaking in the industrial city of Cordoba, Kirchner said she had signed off on a bill “with which we are going to transfer to the state all (Lockheed’s) shares,” returning the factory to national ownership. Argentina privatized the Cordoba-based Fabrica Militar de Aviones in 1995 in a deal with Lockheed Martin, which used the factory to upgrade IA-63 Pampa jet trainer aircraft. If the bill is approved by the Congress, Argentina will pay out $64m for a company that has annual revenues of $50 million. (Source: Defense News)

India’s leading military vehicle producer, Mahindra Defence Systems (MDS), has opened a 6-acre facility in Faridabad near here, where it will produce specialized vehicles for defense applications. “The Mahindra Special Military Vehicles Facility will manufacture specialized vehicles for the armed forces, paramilitary forces and police and is also designed to undertake vehicle development, armoring and conversions,” said Khutub Hai, chief executive of Mahindra Defence Systems.
Inaugurating the new plant March 17, Anand Mahindra, vice chairman and managing director of Mahindra Group, said the company will spend $8m on the plant – $5m for the first phase and $3 million for second-phase expansion. The factory initially will build armored versions of Scorpio and Bolero special utility vehicles and Rakshak bulletproof
