29 Feb 08. Work commences on Navy’s new powerful warship, Duncan. Defence Minister Baroness Taylor today visited the BAE Systems shipyards, in Glasgow to mark the cutting of steel for the Royal Navy’s sixth Type 45 Destroyer, DUNCAN. On her first visit to the Clyde shipyards, Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, Baroness Taylor, said:
24 Jan 08. The Defense Group of Oshkosh Truck Corporation openned its newest location in Warren, Mich, with a grand opening ceremony. Oshkosh Truck has invited local dignitaries, elected government officials as well as government customers from the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) to attend the ceremony. Located in close proximity to TACOM in the Detroit metropolitan area, the Oshkosh Truck Warren office will contain engineering capabilities and a large maintenance area to provide TACOM program and product managers with increased access and involvement in Oshkosh Truck’s execution and performance of their programs.
16 Oct 07. Oshkosh Truck Corporation’s Defense Group has openned a 12,000 square foot logistics facility in Oceanside, Calif., just minutes from the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. The new Oceanside Regional Logistics Center, scheduled to open in November, will help U.S. Marine Corps units reduce downtime and improve overall operational readiness by assisting them in the service, maintenance and training of vehicles including the Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) and Logistics Vehicle System (LVS) vehicles.
27 Feb 08. Elma Electronic, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of commercial, ruggedised and COTS enclosures, subracks, backplanes and systems, has moved into a new 30,000 sq. ft. purpose-built green field facility in Bedford. The new facility brings together under one roof the Elma Electronic commercial products business, which has relocated from Hampshire, and the Mektron Systems ruggedised systems business. Providing state of the art facilities for staff and improved capabilities for customers, an in-house EMC test chamber, additional test facilities, dedicated machine shop and prototype development areas enable modified standard and custom products to be brought to market with the minimum of delay. The building is fitted with future-proofed data and voice networks, multiple redundancy servers running key business systems and state of the art security precautions – including a sealed, secure area for defence and integration projects.

29 Feb 08. Lockheed, Workers Reach Tentative Pact. Lockheed Martin reached a tentative labor agreement with a union representing about 6,000 machinists. The proposed agreement, which would run from 2008 to 2011, offers a $2,000 ratification bonus and a 10 percent wage increase over the life of the contract, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said. 29 Feb 08. Turkish troops pull out of Iraq. Turkey says its troops have been withdrawn from northern Iraq after an offensive against Kurdish PKK rebels. In a statement on its website, Turkey’s military said it had achieved its goals, and there was no question of any foreign influence on the decision. (Source: BBC)
29 Feb 08. Harry withdrawn from Afghanistan. Prince Harry is to be withdrawn from Afghanistan after news of his secret deployment leaked out. The 23-year-old royal, who has spent the last 10 weeks serving in Helmand Province, is to be flown back to the UK amid concerns for his safety. The move follows the collapse of a news blackout deal over his tour of duty, which was broken by foreign media. (Source: BBC)
