31 Oct 17. BAE Team wins Land Rover Post Design Services (PDS) contract. Sources close to BATTLESPACE suggest that the team led by BAE Systems which includes Hobson Industries and Penman has won the £12.5m, over two years, UK MoD Land Rover Post Design Services (PDS)contract including a Land Rover drawings package. The contract requires the support of 7600 Land Rover Wolfs, 600 Ambulances, WMIK, 7000 trailers and 2700 Pinzgauers, a fleet which will be reduced to 780. Losing bidders included Supacat, Ricardo, Jankel and one other. One key task is the refit of the braking systems on the Penman produced trailer fleet and fixing the roll cage on a number of converted ambulances, now the Hebe mortar carriers, for the TA. Land Rover, who had the contract for the previous 8 years, declined to bid and thus has returned all the drawing to the MoD who will source obsolete parts. The contract is expected to be signed by the end of November. The Dutch Marines, another Land Rover Wolf user are being supported by Hobson Industries.

Several companies have expressed interest and the bidders are expected to include BAE Systems, GDUK, Raytheon, Babcock, TVS, Leidos and Finmeccanica.

The helicopters will equip the Defense Ministry and the Interior Ministry, defense minister Mihai Fifor said yesterday. He met with prime minister Mihai Tudose and Airbus representatives at the Government headquarters on Monday.
“It is an older discussion on Romania’s partnership with Airbus through IAR Brasov,” the minister said. “We want the partner companies to invest in the Romanian defense industry, not just to sell equipment in Romania
