23 Mar 11. PrismTech™, a global leader in standards-based, performance-critical middleware and Nextel Aerospace Defense and Security
(Nads), a leader in high performance solutions for distributed simulation and training systems, today announced a technology partnership to extend the capabilities and support of OpenSplice™ DDS for High Level Architecture (HLA) based Simulations. The HLA is defined under the IEEE Standard 1516 and is a general purpose architecture for distributed computer simulation systems. Using HLA, computer simulations can interact (communicate data and synchronize actions) with other computer simulations regardless of the computing platform. The PrismTech and Nads partnership is intended to address two key emerging trends in Defense and Aerospace applications. Firstly, the applicability of HLA for certain kinds of simulations is currently being limited by the performance delivered by current HLA core implementations. Secondly, an increasingly large class of mission-critical systems, based on the Object Management Group’s (OMG™) Data Distribution Service for Real-Time Systems (DDS) standard, are required to interoperate with simulators developed using the IEEE HLA standard.
