07 Jul 09. Defense Solutions, Inc., an international project management and executive consulting firm, a wholly owned subsidiary of Defense
Solutions Holding, Inc. announces that the Company will begin marketing and distributing military protective eyewear products from Revision Eyewear to the military and law enforcement markets in Iraq and Afghanistan. This agreement marks the first time that Revision’s military protective eyewear products are made available to the Iraqi and Afghanistan markets.
09 Jul 09. Russia’s Severnoye teams with Pipavav to compete for Indian NOPV. Russia’s Severnoye Design Bureau has partnered with Indian shipyard Pipavav to compete for the Indian Navy’s naval offshore patrol vessel (NOPV) programme. Vladimir Spiridopulo, general director of Severnoye, told Jane’s on 24 June at the International Maritime and Defence Show in St Petersburg: “We are participating in the tender with Pipavav, a private Indian shipyard and we expect the announcement of the tender in December.” Pipavav is a commercial shipbuilder located on the southwestern coast of Gujarat, which produces tankers, bulk carriers and offshore platforms with only limited naval construction experience. 13 Jul 09. US organisations AMT II Corporation and Douglass Aerospace LLC have agreed to team up to provide consulting services to the global aerospace and defence industries. The AMT II team leader will be Paul W. Pendorf, President of AMT II. AMT II Corporation is a private investment and management firm that acquires companies in the aerospace and speciality chemical sector with emphasis on carbon fibre composites and related technologies. The Douglass Aerospace team leader will be the Honorable John W. Douglass. A retired USAF Brigadier General, former Assistant Secretary of the US Navy, senior staff member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Director of Defense Programs on the National Security Council at the White House, Douglass is an expert on systems acquisition. He is the immediate past President and CEO of the Aerospace Industries Association. The partnership will be headquartered in AMT’s Washington, DC, office headed by Donald E. Ellison, Vice President. “We look forward to a successful association that will offer real value in helping to grow an industry that is rapidly evolving technologically, while weathering uncertain financial times due to the worldwide recession and unsettled political situations,” says John Douglass. 09 Jul 09. Nexter plans joint venture with GTD. France’s Nexter Systems is to establish a joint venture with Barcelona-based engineering company GTD even if the two fail in their shared bid to secure Spain’s upcoming contract for a new 8×8 armoured infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). “The timing won’t be the same but the project is not conditioned by the [vehicle] competition,” Rafael Rodríguez, director of defence and aeronautics at GTD, said on 8 July. Under the agreement PrismTech’s OpenFusion RTOrb Java Edition, the world’s most advanced real-time CORBA® middleware for the Java platform, is being ported to Aonix’s PERC Ultra Real-time Virtual Machine (VM). The partnering agreement will also allow both companies to jointly market their advanced technologies to their mutual customer base.
