11 Jun 09. Soteria, the team bidding for the harmonised UK search and rescue helicopter (SAR-H) contract, has announced the Sikorsky S92 as its preferred choice of aircraft for the new service. The Soteria Consortium – comprising CHC Helicopter Corporation, Thales UK and the Royal Bank of Scotland – says the aircraft is already proven in the SAR environment and represents an effective, reliable, value-for-money proposition. Soteria is taking part in the competitive process led by the Ministry of Defence and Department of Transport to create a single SAR helicopter entity to succeed the existing service, provided across a number of organisations.
17 Jun 09. SELEX Galileo and UOMZ sign a collaboration agreement for Electro Optic systems. SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, and UOMZ (Urals Optical and Mechanical Plant) of Russia have signed a collaboration agreement for Electro-Optic systems for civil applications. Under the agreement, UOMZ will supply stabilised turrets to SELEX Galileo for their airborne surveillance solutions.
11 Jun 09. C2SAT entered into a license agreement with Shanghai based Xinguo IT for local production of the C2SAT stabilised antenna systems in China. Xinguo IT will also be responsible for marketing, sales, installation and after-sales services of C2SAT products in China, Hong-Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Laos and Myanmar. The agreement which is initially valid for a period of three years, but can be extended, gives Xinguo IT the exclusive license rights provided that minimum volumes are reached within specified intervals.
17 Jun 09. CalAmp Corp. has entered into an exclusive agreement with EADS Defence & Security to supply a customised version of its WiMAXbased Sentry 4G. Wireless IP Router, a new rugged broadband communications and
networking platform for mission critical broadband communication applications. The custom high power mobile data terminal will be marketed under the EADS Defence & Security brand name to address customers in the defence and public safety markets outside the United States and Canada.
CalAmp.s Sentry 4G provides high-speed, long-range broadband wireless connectivity based on IEEE 802.16e-2005 (mobile WiMAX) technology and also supports an embedded Wi-Fi module as well as GPS. The targeted market will be defence and security customers where licensed 2.5 GHz
frequencies are available for mobile broadband wireless applications. Applications for the device include video surveillance and other visual multimedia applications providing officers with increased situational awareness through a WiMAX network overlay to existing mission-critical Professional Mobile Radio (PMR) networks.
11 Jun 09. EADS North America and its subsidiary, American Eurocopter, have selected the industry team that will provide components and sub-systems for the UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter Security and Support (S&S) mission equipment package (MEP). The UH-72A in the S&S configuration will provide Army National Guard units the flexibility to respond to a wide variety of Homeland Security, Homeland Defense and civil law enforcement support missions. The mission equipment package consists of an electro-optical infrared sensor, data communications suite, moving map display, cabin and cockpit screens, a digital video recorder and a searchlight. Companies selected to provide key components and sub-systems for the S&S mission equipment package are:
