24 Nov 08. Spanish Defense Minister Carme Chacon and her Australian counterpart
Joel Fitzgibbon signed an agreement Nov. 24 that aims to boost cooperation between their defense industries. The agreement will see increased cooperation in areas such as the development of defense systems and the sharing of technology data. “The memorandum signed today strengthens the excellent relationship which exists between Spain and Australia when it comes to defence,” the Spanish defense ministry added in a statement. This is the third defense deal of its kind signed between Spain and Australia. The first was signed in 1989 when the Spanish and Australian air force agreed to share information on materials that both countries used to build defense technology.
Earlier this year, the two members of NATO struck a deal to enhance cooperation
between their naval forces. (Source: Defense News)

24 Nov 08. MBDA and Onera, the French aeronautical and space research centre, have renewed for a further five years the agreement which has defined the partnership between the two organisations since 1999. The two partners are eager to advance the level of dialogue and cooperation to better prepare for the future and for the emergence of new technologies applicable to missile systems. The cooperation between MBDA and Onera, in place over several decades in the area of ramjet propulsion and missile aerodynamics, has been progressively broadened to cover extended air defence, stealth properties of tactical missiles and SAR imaging radar guidance. From now on two new areas will be included in the cooperation: materials subject to extreme thermal conditions as well as the analysis of infrared environments and images. In more general terms, MBDA and Onera will also be coordinating their activities with regard to contacts with the new public and private financing organisations in the area of research and innovation such as “Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR)” and the “Poles de Competitivite”. The new agreement is equally characterised by its European scope defining as it does the relationship between MBDA and Onera with regard to research projects within the EU, the European Defence Agency as well as the Innovation Technology Programme (ITP) which MBDA has been coordinating between France and the UK since December 2007.
