INDUSTRY TEAMINGS

16 Jun 08. Raytheon Company teaming with the U.S. Navy and Agilent Technologies Inc. has implemented the Presidio Automated Test Line, a breakthrough in testingautomation for production of Raytheon’s Standard Missile 2. The SM-2 Presidio represents an innovative change to the testing process, not only for Standard Missile, but, ultimately, for Raytheon’s entire Missile Systems business. It replaces 17 test positions and 27 environmental conditioning systems with a single automated installation. Presidio also combines many advanced commercial technologies, including robotic material handling, multi-plane vibration, universal solid-state test interfaces andnew test executive software.

Jun 08. Lockheed Martin and Kaman Aerospace Corporation have demonstrated to the U.S. Army and Marine Corps the feasibility of transporting supplies to ground troops by an unmanned helicopter. During 45 minutes of operation at Ft. Eustis, VA, an unmanned K-MAX® helicopter demonstrated autonomous take-off and landing, pick-up and delivery of a 3,000-pound sling load, and the ability to autonomously re-plan and detour from its designated route to accommodate changes to mission requirements and battlefield threats. The demonstration also illustrated the ability of a single ground operator to use both spoken and data commands to control the aircraft via data link, perform precision maneuvers at the pick-up or drop zones, and easily transfer control to another ground operator for maximum interoperability. 12 Jun 08. Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Saab have signed an industrial cooperation agreement during the Training & Simulation Exhibition ITEC 2008 in Stockholm. Through this agreement the companies will join their capabilities within live training, integration and virtual training to offer new combined live-virtual training capabilities to their customers. This is an extension of the cooperation from the received order from Swedish Army earlier this year, where KMW´s virtual simulator and Saab´s anti tank weapon system NLAW (New Light Anti Tank Weapon) are integrated into a live-virtual training solution. This non exclusive agreement strengthens the relation as well as enhances the positions of each party in order to meet future training demands.

16 Jun 08. Lockheed Martin is hosting 20 elementary school, middle school, and high school teachers over the summer as part of the company’s on-going partnership with the Bay Area-based Industry Initiatives for Science and Math Education (IISME). The IISME organization works to foster a strong, highly skilled workforce in mathematics, science and technology. A key IISME initiative is its Summer Fellowship Program that places qualified teachers into local companies and research labs for an eight-week learning experience. During this period, each teacher, paired with an industry mentor, augments their science and math skills by solving real-world problems.
