INDIVIDUAL ARMOUR INITIAITIVE FROM Aero Sekur
14 Oct 08. An Aero Sekur mask and health monitoring system are being incorporated into an individual armour system. The work, as part of the European Protective Individual Defence ARMour (EPIDARM) consortium, will utilise Aero Sekur’s advanced textile technology to provide armour precisely tailored to meet individual user’s needs.
Commenting on the significance of the development, Marco Adami NCBR Business Process Manager for Aero Sekur said:
“This is the first integrated approach to combine technologies to provide an advanced individual armour system.
“Providing CBRNE modular protection, we are incorporating physiological monitoring systems into a lightweight yet highly resilient inner layer to offer heat stress regulation, ballistic protection and medical monitoring capabilities. The advanced material technology used includes the integration of nanostructured conductive material into textiles for the smart transmission of heartbeat and ECG signals to the transmitting set.
“Additionally, an Aero Sekur nuclear, biological and chemical warfare protection face mask, first developed by the company as part of the Future Soldier Italy programme, is also being adopted by EPIDARM.”
Aero Sekur has an established capability dating back over forty years in NBC protection, camouflage and field tent systems. The initiative is the latest in a series of defence sector developments for the company and draws on several years of initial development work undertaken by consortium members. A working prototype is anticipated around mid 2010.
