27 Feb 08. Lockheed Martin has signed a cooperative research agreement with the U.S. Army’s Communications-Electronics Research Development and Engineering Center’s (CERDEC) Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD) to develop tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. Under this cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA), Lockheed Martin and I2WD will leverage resources to develop advanced ISR capabilities vital to the Army’s role in the global war on terrorism.
25 Feb 08. Smiths Detection, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, today announced its Military unit has been selected to participate in the first major phase of Increment 2 of the Improved Point Detection System (IPDS) program. The IPDS II is a shipboard detection system that detects chemical warfare agents. It provides system control at a central location and interfaces with ship-based alarms. In addition, IPDS II is capable of providing audible and visual alarms at a remote location via a remote display unit.
26 Feb 08. Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica company, has signed a contract with the Italian Coast Guard to supply a third ATR42MP Surveyor in basic configuration, without the specific mission equipment. A subsequent contract will cover the integration and the installation of the mission systems on the aircraft, which will be carried out at the Turin and Brindisi plants of Alenia Aeronavali, a subsidiary of Alenia Aeronautica. The missionized aircraft will be delivered in early 2010 in a configuration very similar to that of the two ATR42MPs currently in service with the Coast Guard.
