HOMELAND SECURITY
31 Jan 08. Four senators on Thursday questioned the government’s ability to manage an already delayed high-tech border fence program slated to get $775m in the 2009 budget. More than 280 miles of pedestrian and vehicular fencing are already in place, and the Department of Homeland Security says 670 miles will be by the end of 2008. President Bush wants $775 million for secure border fencing, infrastructure and technology, which would bring the two-year funding total to $2bn for the Secure Border Initiative, DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff said Thursday.
