Lockheed Martin and Black & Veatch have teamed to help utility clients improve the reliability, efficiency and interoperability of the electric power grid and protect it against cyber attacks. Together, the companies offer a comprehensive suite of integrated technology and communication solutions to help utilities shape projects and request grants being offered by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Smart Grid Investment Grant Program. The Smart Grid Investment Grant Program is part of the DOE’s Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability Recovery Plan, which has been allocated $4.5bn to support the modernization of the electric grid. The companies have supported several first-round applications, and are well-positioned to continue assisting other DOE funding applications, such as the DOE’s loan guarantees for employing innovative energy efficiency, renewable energy and advanced transmission and distribution. The Swedish Defense Forces are investing in communications security and accordingly FMV, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, is ordering more Tiger XS for encrypted telephony from Sectra. FMV is also ordering Sectra’s crypto for tactical radio. These crypto products protect telephone calls and radio communication from eavesdropping and are used by Swedish-led task forces. The order value is SEK 18m.
18 Aug 09. The Northrop Grumman Corporation-built National Security Cutter Waesche (WMSL 751) completed successful Builder’s Trials on Monday after undergoing rigorous testing in the Gulf of Mexico. The ship’s return to Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding’s Gulf Coast facility here following trials marks the latest milestone for Waesche, which is nearing completion.
