HOMELAND SECURITY
30 Jun 09. EADS Defence & Security (DS) has developed a new type of disinfection system that offers significantly improved possibilities for countering epidemics und biological weapons. As the company announced on Tuesday, the disinfection system “TransMADDS” (Transportable Modular Aerosol-based Decontamination and Disinfection System) has demonstrated a hitherto unequalled effectiveness against pathogenic germs during two major test campaigns that were carried out, in particular, by competent agencies of the British Ministry of Defence. Moreover, the system can also be deployed to neutralise nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. TransMADDS is used for the dispersion of liquids in the context of disinfecting surfaces and devices in closed rooms. For this, the system not only ensures the highest possible application speed, but also requires the least possible quantity of disinfectant. It can be deployed during military missions for combating nuclear, biological or chemical contamination as well as in civil emergencies, e.g. for disinfecting hospitals in the event of a “superbug”. The TransMADDS system has been jointly developed by EADS Defence & Security and the UK-based technology company Pursuit Dynamics.
