19 Feb 09. L-3 Communications’ Communication Systems-East (CS-East) division has been awarded a contract by Bollinger Shipyards to provide the C4ISR system for the U.S. Coast Guard’s Fast Response Cutter (FRC) program. Under an initial two-year contract, the company will design and deliver the first production shipset and related training systems. This contract also includes options for an additional 33 shipsets which, if exercised, would result in an overall contract value in excess of $100m.

23 Feb 09. The U.S. Army has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation
a $36.9mcost-plus-award-fee contract to enhance the capabilities of the Biometric Intelligence Resource (BIR) system, which uses biometric data, such as fingerprints, facial recognition or iris scans to identify and track individuals of interest in the Global War on Terrorism.

23 Feb 09. Today, a contract has been signed between Abu Dhabi
Police General Headquarters (GHQ) and EADS Defence & Security (DS) to
prepare a plan for an integrated police security system solution for the Abu Dhabi Emirate. The said agreement was signed during IDEX 2009 in Abu Dhabi by Lieutenant General H.H. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior of The United Arab Emirates and Commander of Abu Dhabi Police and by Hervé Guillou, CEO of Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) at EADS Defence & Security. This project includes a comprehensive threat assessment, analysis of business needs and security gap analysis, system design concept as well as a complete implementation plan. The design of the system is intended to provide the Abu Dhabi Police with an improved intelligence capability, a comprehensive situation awareness over the whole emirate in the area under its responsibility, as well as all the necessary means for effective response command and control.

25 Feb 09. Following a Toronto hand-over ceremony of the third Maritime Surveillance Aircraft (MSA) for the Japan Coast Guard, Field Aviation’s modification center has captured a follow-on contract for a further three Bombardier Dash 8 Q300 MSA destined for Japan, bringing the total contract to eight aircraft. This brings to 33 the number of Bombardier aircraft Field Aviation will have modified for use as patrol and surveillance platforms for six national governments worldwide: USA, Australia, Japan, Sweden, Iceland and Denmark.
