Sep 09. BAE to power hybrid buses. Business Wire reports that BAE Systems will provide propulsion systems for up to 500 hybrid electric buses recently ordered by King County Metro Transit. The firm also has an option for 200 more. The firm’s HybriDrive systems will power Daimler Orion 7 buses. The new buses will have BAE Systems’ lithium-ion batteries that the firm says give long life, low weight and good fuel economy and thus low emissions. BAE Systems HybriDrive units power more than 2,000 buses in cities across North America and in the United Kingdom. (Source: Transport News Brief)
