15 Jul 09. DCNS and EDF Energies Nouvelles, a specialist in renewable energy sources, said July 15 they have signed a partnership agreement to develop and build marine energy projects. Under the agreement, the two partners will pool their skills to pursue projects such as wave energy, marine current energy and ocean thermal energy, the companies said in a statement. The projects are expected to go ahead in Europe but could later be pursued in French overseas departments and territories. “Concerned by sustainable development challenges, DCNS is looking to develop in renewable energies activities through this cooperation,” the company said. “DCNS Group brought its experience and expertise of naval systems design and maintenance to the development of these new energy sources.” EDF Energies Nouvelles is a 50 percent subsidiary of state-owned utility Electricité de France (EDF), and is also listed on the Euronext Paris stock exchange. The deal with DCNS is part of the company’s desire to add marine energy to wind and solar sources, the company said. (Source: Defense News)
