28 Jan 09. An “ecological” aircraft, entirely electrically-powered and fed by hydrogen cells, seems destined to break world records for speed and range of operation in its innovative category. These, in brief, are the main characteristics of the aircraft intoroduced to the press today by the President of the Piedmont Region, Mercedes Bresso, the Regional Councillor for Policies of Inivation, Andrea Bairati and by the test pilot and project coordinator, Maurizio Cheli. Brought to completion thanks to support from the Piedmont Region and, in particular, from the Regional Office of Policies for Innovation, within the context of the development of aerospace technology, Skyspark is the “code name” for the project initially conceived by the astronaut, Maurizio Cheli. The result is a truly ecological, totally electrically-powered aircraft. The project was realized by Digisky, a company hatched within the “incubator” for innovative companies maintained by the Turin Polytechnic in cooperation and in cooperation with a research group from the Department of Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering of that same university (DIASP). Skyspark offers an outstanding example of a positive synthesis of resources and skills and is aimed at achieving an important goal: that of being the first piloted aircraft in the world to complete a flight fuelled solely by hydrogen.

An up-beat picture of a cleaner and greener Britain in 20 years’ time, with the rest of the world acknowledging the UK’s championing role in carbon reduction initiatives, is being painted by field-leading consultants and software developers Barloworld Optimus. According to the Solihull-based company, the next two decades will be marked with carbon reduction measures gaining in momentum, notably-diminished reliance on fossil fuels, switches in production processes, and far-reaching changes in transportation patterns and policies. “I can see emissions in the UK halving in the next twenty years,
with Britain being hailed by the rest of the world as leader in slowing down the pace of climate change” says Ewan French, co-developer of the world-beating CAST-CO2 carbon optimisation software and Chief Operating Officer of the company whose software tools are used by five of the world’s top 25 performing companies according to this year’s AMR Research Supply Chain Top 25 report. They include Tesco, Nokia, and Coca-Cola. (Source: Business4Media.com)
