15 Nov 11. Solar plant to power China Lake NAWS facility. US Naval Air Weapon Station (NAWS) China Lake in California will begin drawing more than 30 per cent of its electricity requirements by mid-2012 from a new solar power plant located on base. The project is expected to help reduce energy costs by about USD13 million over its 20-year contract life, officials said. SunPower Corporation is designing a 13.8-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) power system for NAWS China Lake and construction will start in December. (Source: Jane’s, JDW)
