Dec 07. VT Group has expanded its portfolio of support activities after being named preferred bidder to design, build, finance and operate waste management and recycling facilities for Wakefield Metropolitan District Council. VT will provide new infrastructure, processing and recycling facilities, under a Private Finance Initiative (PFI), and subsequently manage the sites over a 25 year period in a programme valued at more than £700m. Construction of new facilities and infrastructure will commence in 2009. In the interim, VT will take over the existing facilities and benefit from initial revenues following financial close, which is due during 2008. Full revenues will commence once the new facilities are operational. The project marks VT’s first success in the Waste Management Market and will harness the Group’s established skills and experience in PFIs, project management and long term service delivery. VT will employ technologies including autoclave, in vessel composting, sorting systems and anaerobic digestion. These facilities will process over 200,000 tonnes per annum of domestic waste generated in the Wakefield area.
