26 Jan 06. Defense contractor General Dynamics Corp. said on Thursday that it received a contract with a potential value of $1bn to provide the Czech Republic’s army with 199 armored personnel carriers.
The company said the contract is through a unit of its European Land Combat Systems, the Vienna-based Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeug. The contract, which includes an option for 35 more vehicles, calls for eight-wheeled Pandur II armored personnel carriers between 2007 and 2012. The company said it expects to complete a final contract in April, and added that the vehicles will be made in Austria and the Czech Republic.
Shares of the company rose $4.26, or 3.7 percent, to $118.60 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange. In the past 52 weeks, the stock has traded between $99.70 and $122.27.
