31 Jan 08. SBAC unveils stellar annual Conference line-up. The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) has unveiled a packed line-up of speakers for its annual conference. The event is being organised in association with Thales. The event will take place on 27 March 2008 at the Institute of Engineering and Technology in Savoy Place. The theme of the conference will be “Meeting the Global Challenge” and will examine the worldwide opportunities for the UK aerospace, defence, security and space sectors. The keynote speaker for the event is Clay Jones, President and CEO of Rockwell Collins and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Aerospace Industries Association.
Other confirmed speakers include:
• Tony Wood, COO of Rolls-Royce Civil and Vice-President of SBAC;
• Colin Paynter, CEO of EADS Astrium, and Chair of the UKSpace Council;
• Guy Griffiths, COO of BAE Systems and Chairman of the Defence
Manufacturers Association (DMA);
• Stephen Phipson, MD of Smiths Detection and Chairman of the Security and
Resilience Industry Suppliers Council (RISC);
• SBAC Chief Executive Ian Godden and President Allan Cook CBE (Chief
Executive of Cobham plc) will give the overall industry perspective; and
• A ministerial speaker will also address the conference.
The speakers will address topics ranging from the green agenda in civil air transport to the case for space. The agenda will also examine the importance of the UK defence industry and the growing need for the security sector. A constant theme running through the day’s discussions will be the global economic and political situation that affects every sector and in which the UK industry plays a major role.
