08 Feb 22. Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions, a leading supplier of modular open systems approach (MOSA) based rugged electronics solutions engineered to succeed, today announced that it was selected as one of five winners at the U.S. Army’s xTechPlugfest Competition, also known as the PNT CMOSS Plugfest, held from November 8-9, 2021 at the Open Innovation Lab (OIL), Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. During xTechPlugfest competitors demonstrated their current PNT CMOSS cards, CMOSS switch cards, and CMOSS chassis ability to meet CMOSS requirements. As one of the five announced winners  out of a field of 15 participating companies, Curtiss-Wright was awarded $20,000 prize money and the opportunity to submit a proposal for a follow-on prototype award for their cards and/or chassis solutions. The Curtiss-Wright demonstration included two new CMOSS chassis, the CMOSS/SOSA Starter Kit (CSSK), a pre-integrated 4-slot SWaP-optimized 3U VPX system and an 8-Slot CMOSS/SOSA/SAVE aligned enclosure that provides a highly configurable rugged platform for Ground Mobile and GCV environments. The PNT demonstration also featured Curtiss-Wright’s VPX3-673/673A A-PNT module (aligned with SOSA Radial Clock profile) and VPX3-687 module VICTORY network/Ethernet switch module (aligned with SOSA Profile: 14.4.14 DP/CP Switch).

The event was hosted in partnership by the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology) [ASA(ALT)] and the Program Executive Office for Intelligence Electronic Warfare & Sensors (PEO IEW&S), Project Manager Positioning Navigation & Timing (PM PNT), the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), and the C5ISR (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) Center.

“We are extremely proud of the results of our Position, Navigation & Timing CMOSS demonstration during the Army’s recent xTechPlugfest Competition,” said Chris Wiltsey, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions. “In appreciation of being selected as a winner at the PNT CMOSS Plugfest, we will be donating our prize award to the Army Fisher House and the AUSA MG Harry Greene Chapter Warrior Support Outing, two charities that directly support our warfighters. Curtiss-Wright is fully committed to leading the industry in bringing MOSA-based solutions for CMOSS, such as our best-in-class A-PNT technology, to market. We look forward to continually advancing the art of the possible for rugged deployable technologies in support of our warfighters.”

About the xTechPlugfest Competition

The goal of the U.S. Army’s xTechPlugfest Competition is to help identify CMOSS (C5ISR/Electronic Warfare Modular Open Suite of Standards) solutions that address overburdened vehicle platform size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) shortcomings while enabling Multi-Domain Operations (MDO). The winning solutions need to minimize platform specific integration, and enable the fielding of subsequent capabilities (i.e., circuit card assemblies) without the need of any additional cabling or mounts.

About the OIL

The Open Innovation Lab (OIL) is a facility that accelerates technology transition and integration as part of the Product Manager (PdM) PNT Modernization’s Process and across the C5ISR Community. It provides a unique, unclassified, facility for integration and assessment of technology against Modular Open Systems Approach (e.g. CMOSS), PNT Reference Architecture (PNT RA), pntOS, VICTORY and other open standards. The OIL also enables Academia, Industry, Government and other organizations to collaborate on Army PNT future capabilities and solutions, leveraging the investments of S&T, Industry, and Academia. It supports collaboration, development and an integration lab to incrementally accelerate mature PNT technologies for insertion into next generation mounted and dismounted capabilities. 07 Feb 22. Saudi’s first-ever World Defense Show ready for launch after selling out all exhibition space.

  • Kingdom’s first integrated defense show to open its doors on March 6 under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
  • Hundreds of global leaders to attend in the presence of international and local industry giants
  • Event will unlock massive local industry opportunities for global firms

Riyadh, 7th February 2022 – Saudi Arabia’s World Defense Show, the global defense and security event to be held in Riyadh under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has officially sold out all exhibition space and is ready to open its doors from 6-9 March 2022.

On March 5th, as a pre-cursor to the inaugural World Defense Show, the first-ever Riyadh Defense Forum, will be conducted by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). This high-level, invite-only forum will host hundreds of the most influential military and political figures from across the globe and feature engaging dialogue on the global defense landscape. The IISS Riyadh Defense Forum will be followed by a city-wide Flying Salute, seeing international military aircraft take to the skies of Riyadh.

Founded by the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), World Defense Show will kick off the first day with a spectacular opening ceremony featuring live demonstrations of interoperable defense capabilities across all key domains. High-level representatives from hundreds of industry giants will be coming to the Kingdom, with those taking substantial space across the 800,000 square metre venue including international partners Lockheed Martin, Boeing, General Dynamics, Navantia, BAE Systems, L3 Harris and Norinco. They will join more than 450 firms from around 37 countries demonstrating the latest technologies from air, land, sea, space and security in an optimal networking environment for collaboration and innovation.

Reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to defense industry growth, the Saudi pavilion at the show will feature wide participation of government, military and business entities. Partners including main partners Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Guard, Presidency of State Security, GAMI and a number of government entities in the sector, will join local companies including Strategic Partner Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI), together showcasing how the Kingdom is unlocking bn-dollar opportunities for global firms amid a drive to localize 50% of its military expenditure under national Vision 2030 objectives.

Andrew Pearcey, Chief Executive Officer at World Defense Show, commented; “The industry response has been overwhelming. It reveals major confidence from the global industry in the Kingdom’s defense market. The inaugural World Defense Show is the ideal opportunity for visitors to further explore the Saudi Arabian defense ecosystem while meeting with key players in a purpose-built venue designed to meet the needs of buyers and suppliers at all levels of the supply chain.

It is an incredible achievement to have a sold-out first edition, showing fantastic promise for future events.”

The centerpiece of the purpose-built event venue will be a 2.7km long and 45-meter-wide aircraft runway with a dedicated control tower, and an interactive command and control center showcasing the event theme of interoperability – a critical topic in the defense industry.

World Defense Show is an interactive platform for governments and industry thought leaders from across the global defense and security supply chain, to help shape the future of defense. As the industry continues to evolve, decision-makers are facing more complex choices than ever before. This makes interoperability across systems increasingly challenging.

Every two years, the show will provide insight and access to technological innovations that are shaping the defense industry: from start-ups and innovators to established multinationals. As one of the world’s top spenders in the defense sector, Saudi Arabia’s geographic location and international presence allows the kingdom to serve as the ideal location for such a show.

Registration for industry professionals is available now through the World Defense Show website and closes in February 2022. All vetted international attendees will receive a complimentary multi-entry visa to Saudi Arabia – valid for one year – to facilitate progress and developments in the Kingdom’s defense industry post-show.

AOC Europe connects organisations and individuals across government, defence, industry, and academia to promote the exchange of ideas and information, and review the latest advances in electromagnetic and information-related fields. With a history spanning more than 25 years, AOC Europe is the Association of Old Crows’ flagship international event with 70+ manufacturers and 1000+ attendees from 40+ countries coming together to engage, innovate and network and to discuss all things within this dedicated sector.

Our 2022 conference theme:

Integrating Electromagnetic Effects across all Domains

The control of the electromagnetic spectrum is a fundamental requirement in modern warfare in all domains whether land, sea air, space, information or cyber. Systems operating in these domains must be able to communicate, make decisions, share information and take actions in a coordinated, controlled and effective manner using the electromagnetic spectrum.

To achieve and maintain this dominance, electronic warfare, radar, navigation, situational awareness and other information and communication systems require significant levels of integration and interoperability across all types of platforms and in all domains. Innovative integrated systems requirements, applications and enabling technologies will be considered from intelligence data gathering, analysis and data fusion through to the deployment of countermeasures and other actions that use the electromagnetic spectrum.
