Record breaking demand for exhibition space at DVD

Organisers have reported that a record number of exhibitors will be present at this year’s DVD event, with demand for space 30% higher than at the same time last year. DVD is the single most concentrated display of military, emergency vehicles and support equipment in Europe. With two months still to go until the event, the number of exhibitors signed up has already broken last year’s record total by more than 15%.
“DVD provides an excellent forum for senior government personnel and suppliers to discuss requirements with army personnel and system specifiers as well as experience vehicles, systems and equipment in simulated field conditions,” commented Nigel Gilhead, leader of the SUV IPT (Specialist Utility Vehicles Integrated Project Team). “The unprecedented level of demand for exhibition space demonstrates that we are delivering an event which is growing in stature and is held in high regard by both suppliers and MoD purchasing teams.”
Organised by SUV IPT, DVD is the single most concentrated display of mobility systems in Europe. This year for the first time, ESS IPT (Engineering Systems Support Integrated Project Team) will also use the event as its industry showcase day. ESS IPT is responsible for the purchase of many areas of the MoD’s support infrastructure including operational accommodation, water purification, fuel storage, general purpose power, surfacing expedients, camouflage and earth moving equipment and construction plant.
Visitors to DVD will be able to experience a wider range of battlefield equipment than ever before. So far more than 40 companies have registered to exhibit at DVD for the first time, bringing a range of new equipment to the show.
“Over 80% of exhibitors from last year are returning to DVD 2006,” added Gilhead. “The high level of repeat bookings demonstrates that DVD delivers real tangible benefits for suppliers wanting to hear about the latest MoD purchasing strategies and wishing to demonstrate their products to key decision makers within the MoD purchasing teams.”
The theme for this year’s DVD is Gatekeeper, the latest phase of the MoD’s Smart Procurement initiative. This is designed to provide better co-ordination and integration between the IPTs, delivering reduced operating costs and increased capability. Many of the savings expected are related to the reduced proliferation of equipment meeting similar needs and a reduced logistics footprint.
