13 May 08. A total of sixteen different systems from the USA, UK, Switzerland, Israel, Russia and Italy are registered to fly at ParcAberporth Unmanned Systems 2008 (PAUS2008) this summer. PAUS, which is sponsored by SELEX GALILEO, Thales and AUVSI, has grown steadily since its launch five years ago and now runs over two days – June 25 & 26 – to accommodate the extensive seminar programme and the flying display. The annual event which takes place at ParcAberporth UAV technology park in West Wales is undoubtedly European’s premier event attracting a worldwide audience of delegates and exhibitors. It also has the distinction of being the only event of its kind in the world to feature flying displays of unmanned systems in civil airspace. A number of key speakers are lined up over the two days to give delegates an update from the military and civil perspectives as well as an insight into a number of key UAS programmes and projects. The annual ASTRAEA conference is also being hosted at ParcAberporth and takes place on the afternoon of June 24 and is open to all. This UK government backed £32m programme is researching, developing and validating the necessary technologies, systems, facilities and procedures to promote and enable safe, routine and unrestricted use of UASs. The flying display is always one of the highlights of PAUS and this year eleven companies and organisations plan to fly sixteen different systems. A range of specially arranged scenarios will be enacted when the systems will be put through their paces to demonstrate the capabilities of the various payloads. Real time images will be relayed onto wide screens around the site with expert commentary from the presenting team and the companies involved
