08 Nov 05. Urovesa, the Spanish specialist vehicle supplier, has won a five-year contract to provide all-terrain vehicles to the Spanish ministry of defence. Urovesa is based in the autonomous Spanish region of Galicia. The other candidate for the contract, Spain’s Santana Motor, dropped out of the bidding because its project was not viable. Santana had planned to assemble Humvee military vehicles supplied by US group AM General. (Source: FT.com/Abstracted from Expansion)

10 Nov 05. After years of negotiations, Turkey and Germany have sealed a contract for the sale to the Turkish Land Forces of 298 Leopard 2A4 surplus tanks. The contract — signed Nov. 8 in Germany by the Turkish Land Forces Procurement Department and the German Ministry of Defense’s Armaments Division — is valued at 365 million euros ($429.6 million), said a German diplomat here. About 70 million euros of the cost will go to German industry to pay for the “know-how, personnel training and the technology transfer for critical parts like electronics and the fire control unit,” the diplomat said.

Deliveries under the program will start in the spring of 2006 and be completed in about 12 months.

01 Nov 05. Text of report by Bosnian Serb news agency SRNA Valjevo, 1 November: The Valjevo-based Krusik Holding Corporation has concluded a contract on the export of long-range missiles [S/C: raketa visokog dometa] to an EU buyer; the total value of the deal is 5m dollars, Krusik Director General Jovan Davidovic announced today. He said that the Krusik military factory resumed production of these missiles after a 10-year break. Davidovic added that this export deal, together with a previously-agreed 3m dollar deal, was of great significance for the revival of the company, which has for decades represented the mainstay of Valjevo’s economic development. During the NATO air strikes in 1999 the Krusik company was levelled to the ground and that is why it has entered into cooperation with other companies to cover part of its production programmes. Krusik, which used to employ around 10,000 workers, is in the process of restructuring. A total of 638 workers have left the company since March this year as part of a redundancy drive, 275 of whom had been employed in the weapons and military equipment factory. There are currently 1,320 employees in the weapons and military equipment factory and 2,160 employees in other affiliated factories.
