QinetiQ has been awarded a three year contract with options to extend for a further two years, worth up to £95mi to support the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) in delivering next generation battlefield tactical communications and information systems. QinetiQ will provide Private Sector Support to the Battlefield Tactical Communication and Information Systems (BATCIS) Delivery Team within Information Systems and Services which is part of Joint Forces Command. The contract is a critical enabler to BATCIS in its work delivering the next generation of Tactical Communication and Information Systems as part of a Single Information Environment for UK armed forces. QinetiQ will work collaboratively with its partners, Atos, BMT and Roke, to provide the BATCIS Delivery Team with a multi-skilled, multi-disciplinary team that will support the delivery of all their requirements flexibly and at pace. These tasks will include the provision of programme management, engineering, approvals, cost estimating, requirements and acceptance, integrated logistic support, trials, training, and safety. 27 Jul 18. Saab has signed a contract with the UK Ministry of Defence extending by one year the logistical support contract first signed in 2015 for the Arthur weapon locating system. Saab delivered the first Arthur systems to the UK 15 years ago, where it is known as the Mobile Artillery Monitoring Battlefield Asset (MAMBA). Arthur is in use with the British Army’s 5thRegiment Royal Artillery and has supported operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Saab will carry out the work on-site at 5thRegiment Royal Artillery’s Marne Barracks in Catterick, UK.

24 Jul 18. Umoe Mandal has secured a new contract to deliver critical components for the British Royal Navy’s Type 26 Global Combat Ships. The deal will see the company deliver three shipsets of composite mast and SCOT Sponsons structures for integration on-board the navy’s frigates. 25 Jul 18. Saab to Provide RAF’s Typhoons With New Smart Self-Protection System. Saab has received an order from BAE Systems for development of a new pyrotechnic smart self-protection system for the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to defeat radar- and IR-guided threats. The order is part of a framework agreement with BAE Systems consisting of development, production, support and future sales of the Smart Dispenser System (SDS), a pyrotechnic smart self-protection system for the Royal Air Force’s (RAF) Typhoons and future Eurofighter opportunities. 24 Jul 18. In the presence of the Italian Army Chief of Staff and of the Land Armaments Director a contract for the first tranche of ten Centauro II Vehicles, named “New Blindo Centauro” by the Italian Army, has been signed by the Iveco – Oto Melara Consortium (CIO) senior management at Guidoni Palace, headquarters of the General Secretariat of Defence and of the National Armaments Directorate. The Centauro II marks a major step forward compared to the previous Centauro I, in terms of power, observation capability, mobility, ergonomics, firing range, communication and maximum crew protection. Equipped with a new power pack delivering over 700hp and with H-drive architecture, a hallmark of the 8×8 Centauro range, Centauro II features an entirely digital system and a new generation turret mounting with a 120/45 mm gun. The result is a new concept of wheeled armored vehicle capable of operating in any scenario: from national security missions, to peace-keeping and support operations including all interventions involving the Italian Armed Forces. The CIO contract, including vehicles, equipment and logistics, is worth 159m euros. This delivery is the first tranche of a total of 136 units.
26 Jul 18. Czech army to procure additional Vera NG radars. The General Staff of the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR) has announced plans to procure two additional Vera-NG (Next Generation) mobile passive radar systems to support NATO overseas missions. The ACR has expressed interest in the indigenously produced Vera-NG, but no firm procurement date has been given. ACR sources say the service is looking to procure the latest version of the Vera-NG made by Czech radar maker ERA, which offers an even higher degree of mobility and is more easily transportable by NATO aircraft, and capable of being discreetly deployed in a front-line scenario. 23 Jul 18. Kromek (AIM: KMK), a radiation detection technology company focusing on the medical, security and nuclear markets, has today announced two new contract wins from the US Department of Homeland Security and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, an agency of the US Department of Defense, to develop next generation radiation detection solutions for the purposes of national defence and security. The two contracts are worth a minimum of $2.6m to be delivered over the next three years, with a potential two-year extension to $3.3m, with revenue generation commencing under both contracts in the current financial year.

(Nasdaq: VSAT), a global communications company, announced today it was awarded a six-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract in May 2018 from the U.S. Government valued at up to $85.5m for Block Upgrade 2 (BU2) hardware and software upgrades and support services to their Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Low Volume Terminal (MIDS-LVT) Link 16 radio sets. The order is the result of a sole source procurement through the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), San Diego, Calif. The order adds modernized Link 16 communications capability for U.S. Army, Navy, Marines and selected Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Customers. Initial delivery orders under the contract total $22m.

DRS Laurel Technologies, Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is awarded a $9,663,552 firm-fixed-price modification to previously awarded contract N00024-17-C-5201 to exercise an option for the production of Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC) Signal Data Processor-Sierra (SDP-S) equipment sets. CEC is a sensor netting system that significantly improves battle force Anti-Air Warfare capability by extracting and distributing sensor-derived information such that the superset of this data is available to all participating CEC units. CEC improves battle force effectiveness by improving overall situational awareness and by enabling longer range, cooperative, multiple, or layered engagement strategies. The SDP-S is an integral common component that supports the shipboard, airborne, and ground-mobile variants of the CEC equipment suite. 26 Jul 18. Leonardo DRS, Inc. announced today it has been awarded a contract worth up to $10m to produce mobile Shipboard Carry-On/Off Satellite Communication Systems (SCOSS) for U.S. Navy ships. The contract was awarded by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Division for a single system with up to ten systems acquired in future years. The SCOSS is scheduled for customer delivery in 2019.

US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has awarded Raytheon Missile Systems a USD10.7m modification to a contract awarded in May 2017 to conduct flight test demonstrations for the AGM-154C-1 Joint Standoff Weapon Extended Range (JSOW-ER) Phase 3a development. The award includes hardware and software modifications with laboratory and ground testing to the existing JSOW AGM-154C-1. Work is expected to be finalised by July 2019. The AGM-154C-1 variant adds a two-way Link 16 Strike Weapon Data Link and upgraded seeker software to address a US Navy requirement for a network-enabled weapon able to precisely strike moving maritime targets at ranges of up to and beyond 100km (54n miles). 24 Jul 18. Rheinmetall to supply more than 1000 logistic trucks to the Australian Defence Force. Rheinmetall today welcomed the Commonwealth of Australia’s announcement for the future delivery of new military trucks and modules to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) under the LAND 121 Phase 5B program. Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia (RMMVA) will deliver more than 1000 high mobility logistics trucks and more than 800 modules to the ADF under the new program, which is an extension of the current LAND 121 Phase 3B Project. Deliveries will start in 2019 and will run to 2024. Under the LAND 121 Phase 3B program, RMMVA is currently delivering protected and unprotected military logistic trucks and modules from its Brisbane-based integration facility. The vehicles are tested and verified at the Australian Automotive Research Centre’s 1000 hectare site near Anglesea, 125km south-west of Melbourne.
