SEA

02 Mar 17. Saab has signed a new contract with the Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) for the delivery of product support and maintenance to the Swedish Navy’s underwater weapon systems. The new agreement states that FMV can place orders up to a total value of SEK236m ($26.09m) for product support and maintenance of underwater weapon systems during the period from 2017 to 2019. The deal has been signed under the terms of the Letter of Intent (LoI) between the two Swedish parties, which was announced on 9 June 2014. Saab will offer support to the underwater capabilities of the Swedish Armed Forces for the period between 2015 and 2024 under the arrangement. (Source: naval-technology.com)

01 Mar 17. QinetiQ has signed a deal for four Airbus H125 helicopters as part of its modernisation of the Empire Test Pilots’ School (ETPS), which it manages alongside the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD). Worth approximately £15m, the deal will see Airbus Helicopters’ UK design team upgrade the Garmin G500-equipped aircraft with, among other capabilities, a 3-axis autopilot, dedicated communications equipment and Traffic Awareness Systems. This is in addition to a Flight Test Instrumentation suite, which is used to test and evaluate aircraft design and performance – a critical part of a test pilot or flight test engineer’s training. The contract includes aircraft modification and 10 years’ full HCare support package – industry’s most comprehensive service coverage – helping to deliver full availability. The aircraft are expected to enter service in early 2019.

27 Feb 17. Airbus Helicopters has received an order from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) to retrofit 26 CH-53 heavy transport helicopters. This contract will cover obsolescence management for components that are no longer available on the market and will begin by replacing them with up-to-date parts. This retrofit will guarantee the helicopters’ operation until at least 2030. The process will start in 2017 and should be completed by 2022. Work will be carried out in Donauworth at Airbus Helicopters’ Military Support Center Germany.

02 Mar 17. Sensonor for GMA Land Navigator. GMA Land Navigator has selected Sensonor STIM210 as inertial engine. The STIM210 provides high accuracy inertial data for the AXD-LNS Land Navigator Solution. Sensonor is currently in serial deliveries supporting the Land Navigator which went into regular production in late 2016, following 5 years of development. STIM210 is a small, lightweight and low power, ITAR free high performance tactical grade gyro module with 3 gyros, currently deployed in applications like UAVs, satellites, portable target acquisition systems, land navigations systems, turret stabilization, missile stability and navigation, and mortar aiming systems. The GMA AXD-LNS is a high performance Navigation system intended for a wide range of applications, such as advanced navigation displays and advanced Navigation Control Systems in Armored Vehicle programs. Due to its High Stability MEMS sensor based architecture, the AXD-LNS equipment is easily configured for platform stabilization applications. In a GPS-denied environment, the system exploits the velocity aiding with help of the high accuracy inertial data in order to provide continuous navigation solution. (Source: ESD Spotlight)

LAND

01 Mar 17. CDW Government has been awarded a $34.1m order for Navy and Marine Corps laptops. CDW will deliver 31,729 general purpose laptops, according to the Department of Defense contract announcement. The laptops are part of the Next Generation Enterprise Network and the Secure Operational Network Infrastructure Capability fiscal 2017 computer refresh. The contract is scheduled for completion this November. The contract was awarded by Marine Corps Systems Command, Quantico, Virginia.
