27 Jan 17. Bittium has signed a contract with the Finnish Defence Forces for the delivery of Bittium Tough Mobile LTE smartphones and related Bittium Secure Suite back-end system classified for Confidential level. The contract signifies a strategic decision to reinforce the information security of the wireless communications of the Finnish Defence Forces. Bittium Tough Mobile smartphones and the related back-end system will be used in different and diverse functions within the Finnish Defence Forces.

02 Feb 17. FAUN Trackway Limited has secured a multi-million-pound contract with the Swiss Armed Forces. All contract requirements will be manufactured in the heart of Anglesey at our Head Office in Llangefni with delivery to begin in April 2017, resulting in potential opportunities for expansion and jobs growth throughout the company. Having successfully operated a fleet of our Heavy Ground Mobility Systems (HGMS) since 2008 a repeat order has been requested by the Swiss Armed Forces. This additional contract has come to fruition as a result of the Swiss Armed Forces demand for fleet expansion fulfilling wider requirements and offering further capabilities.

31 Jan 17. General Dynamics European Land Systems signed a contract on December 22, 2016, with the Austrian Ministry of Defense to deliver 34 additional PANDUR 6×6 vehicles. The Austrian Ministry of Defense first purchased 71 PANDUR 6×6 in 1994. Since then, the vehicles have been successfully operated in country and on several international peace keeping missions abroad. The modernized version of the PANDUR 6×6 vehicles will be completely manufactured in Austria and the first vehicle will be delivered in 2018. The high domestic content in these vehicles secures jobs and supports the local economy with approximately 179 sub-suppliers as part of the program. In addition to a new power pack, the PANDUR 6×6 will have significantly higher ballistic and mine protection. Additionally, a modern remotely controlled weapon station will be integrated into the vehicle.

31 Jan 17. Czech Republic orders more Pandur II armoured vehicles. The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 30 January awarded a CZK2.07bn (USD82.0m) contract to Tatra Defence Vehicle for the procurement of 20 specialised versions of the Steyr Pandur II 8×8 armoured vehicle for the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR). Tatra Defence Vehicle obtained exclusive assembly and marketing rights for the Pandur from Steyr parent company General Dynamics European Land Systems in 2015.
Tatra Defence Vehicle will deliver six Pandur vehicles configured as command-and-control platforms and another 14 vehicles configured as communications platforms to the ACR, which already operates a fleet of 107 Pandur vehicles in various configurations. (Source: IHS Jane’s)

01 Feb 17. Saft has signed a multi-million dollar contract with General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) Mowag, the Switzerland-based subsidiary of GDLS. Saft will deliver its Xcelion 6T® batteries to equip hundreds of Piranha V Armored Personal Carriers (APC) to be supplied by GDELS-Mowag to the Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistic Organization (DALO). With this contract, Saft is proud to be the first battery manufacturer globally to sign a large-scale production contract to equip a military vehicle with new lithium-ion (Li-ion) 6T battery technology, a market traditionally dominated by lead-acid legacy components. The Saft’s Xcelion 6T® is a quarter of the weight, and half the volume of two lead-acid batteries, providing equivalent power in a single battery system. Xcelion 6T® uses Saft’s Super-Phosphate® (SLFP®) patented technology designed for applications where safety is critical. The Xcelion 6T® features an advanced, lightweight design within the dimensions of a traditional lead-acid battery, enabling easy integration into the vehicle.
