05 Jan 12. FMV is to procure 48 BvS10 MkIIB all terrain vehicles from BAE Systems Hägglunds in Sweden. The first vehicles will be delivered in the autumn of 2012 to allow them to be ready for international operations in the spring of 2013. FMV carried out tests of the two competing vehicles. FMV received two very competitive bids offering two qualified vehicle systems. The cost of the acquisition – a complete system including 48 vehicles and support and training equipment – is approximately around 700m SEK.

The U.S. Navy recently awarded General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems a $95.9m contract for production and deployed-systems support of U.S. and U.K. Trident II submarine strategic weapons systems, including the SSBN fire-control system, the SSGN attack weapon-control system, the U.S. SSBN-replacement and the U.K. SSBN-successor common missile compartment. The contract has a maximum value of $225m if all options are exercised.

DRS Systems, Inc., Parsippany, N.J., was awarded a five-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with firm-fixed-price delivery orders for the purchase of Spot on Target in support of U.S. Special Operations Command Procurement Division. The estimated contract value is $40,218,000. The work will be performed in Dallas, Texas, and Melbourne, Fla, and ordering will be completed by November 2016. 05 Jan 12. DRS Sustainment Systems, Inc., St. Louis, Miss., was awarded a $24,859,737 firm-fixed-price contract. The award will provide for the services in support Expeditionary Water Packaging System. Work will be performed in St. Louis, Miss., and Germany, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 9, 2012. 06 Jan 12. The U.S. Army TACOM Lifecycle Management Command has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems $60m under an existing contract to continue upgrading M1A1 tanks to the M1A2 Systems Enhancement Package (SEP) V2 configuration. The most technologically advanced digital tank, the M1A2 SEP V2 includes improved color displays, day and night thermal sights, commander remote operated weapon station (CROWS II), a Thermal Management System (TMS) and a tank-infantry phone. The M1A2 SEP V2 maximizes the fighting ability of the tank on today’s battlefield while preparing the platform for tomorrow’s challenges.

04 Jan 12. ITT Exelis has received a Wideband Satellite Communications (SATCOM) operations and technical support (WSOTS) contract to provide mission support for the US Army’s wideband satellite operations centres and management sites worldwide. The $121m cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, awarded by the US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC) and the Army Forces Strategic Command (ARSTRAT), includes a one-year base period of performance and six one-year option periods. Under the contract, the company will continue to provide support for the army’s global network and computer systems for critical military satellite communications. The contract also includes operations and maintenance support, life-cycle engineering, on-site technical assistance, equipment installation, depot-level repair, logistics, cyber s
