22 Sep 11. The German Army has placed an order with Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) for the assembly and delivery of 31 additional MUNGO 2 multipurpose vehicles for the special operations division (DSO). The company delivered the first three preseries prototypes, which were qualified technically and tactically in an operational test. The MUNGO 2 multipurpose vehicle, with a payload of 1.5t, was designed for transportation on a CH-53 transport helicopter to deliver mission-specific munitions, fuel, maintenance and NBC decontamination equipment. The two-headed crew vehicle provides protection against ballistic, mine and improvised explosive devices threats. Deliveries of the vehicles will be completed until 2013. More than 400 MUNGO in the three different versions have been delivered to the German Army to date.
14 Sep 11. Raytheon Company was awarded a fixed-price contract with options totalling $19.9m to supply the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) with PhantomIRxr™ thermal biocular systems. Raytheon will supply the FDF with systems and spares along with a maintenance package. Delivery will begin in 2011 and continue through 2014. Work will be performed at Raytheon’s Network Centric Systems (NCS) site in Richardson, Texas. Following a competitive procurement, Raytheon’s PhantomIRxr system proved its capabilities in the field trials. Raytheon’s light-weight, rugged system provided the most advanced capabilities and best value to the FDF.
Raytheon’s PhantomIRxr system is an innovative, man-portable thermal biocular, weighing less than 3.6 pounds with batteries, that functions as a surveillance and targeting system.

ATK was awarded a $37m contract to provide lightweight (LW) 30mm ammunition – including the M788 TP (target practice) training round and the M789 High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) tactical round – to the United Kingdom’s (UK) Ministry of Defence (MoD). The contract reinforces ATK’s position as a preferred provider of medium-caliber ammunition to allied forces worldwide. Both rounds will support the UK’s fleet of AH-64 Apache Helicopters. These two rounds make up ATK’s family of LW30mm ammunition and were originally developed and fielded for the M230 automatic cannon and the AH-64 Attack helicopter. The M789 HEDP round provides the accuracy and armor penetration capabilities necessary to effectively defeat today’s threats, and the cost-effective, ballistically-matched M788 training rounds enable improved warfighter performance in active theaters around the globe. ATK has produced more than 14m LW30mm cartridges rounds since 1977.
22 Sep 11. Saab has signed a frame agreement and received a first order from the EADS company Cassidian to supply safety-critical avionics equipment for the new advanced UAV system Talarion. The order includes design and development of the Aircraft Vehicle Management Computer (AVMC), Communications Computer (CC) and Mission & Payload Management Computer (MPMC) for Talarion. The work will be carried out by the Avionics Division of Saab’s business area Electronic Defence Systems, in
Jönköping and Järfälla, Sweden, and deliveries of the first order will take place 2012-2014.

22 Sep 11. Cobham Awarded US $16.9m for AN/ALQ-99 Low Band Transmitters
Lansdale, Pennsylvania – Cobham has been awarded a US $16.9m contract from the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to manufacture the AN/ALQ-99 Low Band Transmitter-Antenna Group for US Navy and Marine Corps EA-6B and E/A- 18G electronic warfare aircraft. The new contract continues funding for a fourth full rate production lot, bringing the total number of production transmitters ordered to 233 of 315 required. To date 157 transmitters and 323 antenna products have been delivered. The contract’s initial award procured 60 Low Band Transmitters and an associated number of antenna assemblies in a variety of configurations.
