04 May 11. Curtiss-Wright Corporation received a contract from Lockheed Martin to provide the turret drive servo system for use in the United Kingdom’s new Scout reconnaissance vehicle. Curtiss-Wright’s turret drive servo system provides weapon stabilization for tracked combat vehicles. Curtiss-Wright will design, develop and manufacture the turret drive servo system at the company’s Motion Control facility in Neuhausen, Switzerland. The contract, which is for the demonstration phase of the program with an option for production deliveries, continues through December 2013.
29 Apr 11. General Dynamics European Land Systems was awarded a new contract on April 6th 2011 by the German Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung (BWB) for the delivery of 22 EAGLE BAT (Protected Ambulance Vehicles). The contract is a follow-on order to the 20 EAGLE BAT delivered to the Bundeswehr on 15 March 2011. This order represents an important endorsement for the protected EAGLE vehicle as it continues to be deployed in international peace support missions by the Republic of Germany and increases the number of EAGLE ordered by the BWB to a total of 495 vehicles.

29 Apr 11. The Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization has signed a contract with Terma for the delivery of radar systems for the Danish Navy’s three new frigates of the IVER HUITFELDT class, which are expected to enter operational service in 2013. The radar is intended for surveillance and rescue assignments and helicopter guidance. The first system will be installed in May this year, and the two additional systems in December 2011 and February 2012. Terma’s SCANTER 6000 naval surveillance radar is already installed on the U.S. Navy’s Stiletto vessel and will be installed as part of the French Offshore Patrol Vessel program “Hermes” later this year. 19 Apr 11. Lees Avionics Ltd awarded contract by Babcock to upgrade Grob 115E. Farnborough UK-based Lees Avionics Ltd, a Gama Group company, has been awarded a contract by Babcock to upgrade 93 Grob 115E training aircraft on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence. The upgrade comprises installation of Avidyne TAS600 Traffic Advisory Systems and a Sandel Electronic H.S.I., which together add a significant improvement to situational awareness and collision avoidance. Since commencing work in mid-January 2011, 30 aircraft have been delivered on time, with a target for the completion of all 93 aircraft by mid December 2011. Lees are undertaking the work at Farnborough in conjunction with sister company Gama Support Services Ltd.

29 Apr 11. Sectra to simplify key management in Rakel. The Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, FMV, has ordered a server solution from Sectra, which will comprise wireless distribution of cryptographic keys. The solution will be used by public safety functions and the Swedish Armed Forces in the national radio system, Rakel. The wireless distribution will facilitate the use of security functions that protect sensitive information from eavesdropping. The order value is SEK 13m. Prior to Sweden’s EU Presidency in 2009, Sectra developed a TETRA crypto, which was used by important public safety officials to protect against eavesdropping in Rakel. The server solution currently being developed by Sectra will significantly enhance efficient management of cryptographic keys and thus promote expanded and more secure cooperation within and between user groups in Rakel. The development of the server solution for wireless distribution of cryptographic keys will continue until spring 2012. The aim is to have the full system approved at security level Restricted during 2012.
