Cassidian has won a contract from the Swiss defence procurement authority Armasuisse for the advanced production engineering of the IMESS programme (Integrated and Modular Engagement System for the Swiss Soldier). The volume of this order is in excess of 20m Swiss francs. Switzerland expects Cassidian Warrior21™ product to deliver significant capability enhancement, future viability and modularity in the infantry sector. It will give the Swiss Army one of the world’s most powerful advanced soldier systems. It will fit smoothly into the Swiss Army joint reconnaissance, command and action forces. It can also be integrated with systems already in use.
Feb 11. MTL Group a major European Defence manufacturing specialist has been awarded a significant contract from Force Protection
Europe to supply a serial production run of fabricated armoured “V” hulls for the prestigious UK Foxhound project. MTL Group has also supported Force Protection Europe and Ricardo on this project though its
Design For Manufacture service. This DFM service provided an opportunity to select the optimum materials and influence the design for Photo courtesy of Force Protection Europe volume production. From their new 300,000 sq. ft modern manufacturing facility, MTL Group will produce these complex highly protected hulls. MTL Group will be using state-of the-art equipment including the world’s largest robot press and robot welding to ensure consistent quality and volume achievement.

Cobham has been selected by Inmarsat to be the maritime terminal launch partner for Inmarsat’s new Global Xpress™ global broadband service, with a distribution opportunity valued at $40m over the next five years, and potential for more depending on market success. Cobham has been awarded contracts to develop, manufacture, test and distribute Global Xpress maritime satellite terminals, through their Sea Tel product line. As initial launch partner, Cobham will ensure availability of Global Xpress maritime satellite terminals at service introduction planned for 2013. Global Xpress™ will begin operations in 2013 with services tailored initially for the government, energy and maritime markets. Global Xpress™ takes advantage of the additional bandwidth available in the Ka-band to offer download rates of 50 megabits per second (Mbps) and upload speeds of 5Mbps from mobile user terminals as small as 60 centimeters.
