The Defense Security Cooperation Agency in the US has notified Congress of a potential sale of 40 mk48 mod 7 advanced technology (AT) torpedo conversion kits and associated support to the Netherlands. Under the estimated $150m foreign military sale, the Netherlands will receive 40 mk48 mod 7 AT torpedo conversion kits, 40 containers, weapon system support and integration and associated equipment, parts, training and logistic support. The Netherlands plans to upgrade its mk48 mod 4 torpedoes to the mk48 mod 7 AT model intended for use on its Walrus Class submarines. The country has substantial experience in maintaining and supporting advanced torpedoes such as the mk48 Mod 4/4M and mk46 5A(S)W models. 05 Aug 10. Alenia Aeronautica, Avio and Lockheed Martin sign five-year contract to support Italian Air Force’s C-130J Fleet. Alenia Aeronautica, a Finmeccanica company, the leader of an industrial team with Avio and Lockheed Martin, signed a five-year contract with the Italian Air Force to provide technical and logistical support services to their C-130J airlift fleet. The contract is worth €155m and covers a fully integrated service to improve full efficiency and availability of the Italian Air Force’s C-130J fleet.

10 Aug 10. GM GDLS Defense Group, LLC, Sterling Heights, Mich., was awarded on Aug. 5 a $20,029,812 firm-fixed-price contract. This contract action cuts the modified hull design (double-V hull), into an additional 78 vehicles and revises the obligated amount for the production cut-in of the double-V hull, into the previous 281 vehicles. The double-V hull is an integrated solution that provides improved protection levels to support operations in the Operation Enduring Freedom area of responsibility. Work is to be performed in London, Ontario, Canada (50 percent), and Anniston, Ala. (50 percent), with an estimated completion date of Feb. 22, 2012. One bid was solicited with one bid received. 10 Aug 10. Honeywell’s high-performance, shock-tolerant artillery Tactical Advanced Land Inertial Navigator (aTALIN™) has been selected by the U.S. Army for the M119 howitzer under an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, with potential value of up to $65m. Unlike other systems which require external shock isolation, the aTALIN design incorporates internal shock isolation, reducing setup and calibration time and increasing system reliability to improve mission effectiveness.
05 Aug 10. iRobot Corp. received a $20.3m order from the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). The order has been issued as a standalone contract. It calls for the delivery of 125 PackBot Man Transportable Robotic System (MTRS) robots, spare parts and repairs. The PackBot MTRS is modeled after the iRobot 510 PackBot. (Source: Yahoo!)
Aug 10. Ultra TCS, has been awarded an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract over seven years. The awards have been made by the Canadian Commercial Corporation acting on behalf of the US Department of Defense for the AN/GRC-245A HCLOS radio communication system, a key element of the US Army’s WIN-T Program. The initial contract authorization under the IDIQ contract is valued at about $31m (US) for the purchase of HCLOS radios, spares, and support to be delivered in the first half of 2011.
