26 Nov 09. Avon Protection, part of Avon Rubber p.l.c., has won the contract to supply its FM12 respirators and CBRNF12CE filters to Remploy as part of the £14.75m ‘Quick Don’ project. The contract will involve Avon supplying 12,000 FM12 respirators and 24,000 CBRNF12CE filters to Remploy to be used as part of the ‘Quick Don’ CBRN ensemble – a complete CBRN personal protection equipment (PPE) suit that can be donned in five minutes.

26 Nov 09. UK contract for 7.62mm “sharp shooter” rifle. The UK MoD has awarded a contract to Law Enforcement International (LEI) for the supply of a new 7.62mm semi-automatic “sharpshooter” rifle to meet current operational requirements. The new rifle, which will bear the official service designation “L129A1” is manufactured by Lewis Machine & Tool Co (LMT) in the USA. The L129A1 is based on a proven design, with new features, including a one piece upper receiver and a “free floating” barrel, which offers better accuracy at longer ranges.
BATTLESPACE Comment: Sources suggest that this contract was won in fierce competition from H&K and FN. The sighting systems will be GFE.

01 Dec 09. Contract awarded to Nexter Systems for the Leclerc tank Post-Production In-Service Support. In conformity with the decisions taken by the French Ministry of Defence in the Ministerial Defence Investment Committee, the French Army’s Central Material Directorate (DCMAT) and the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) awarded the contract for Leclerc tank Post-Production In-Service Support (SSPP XL) to Nexter Systems on 19 November 2009. Implementation of the services covered by the firm phase will begin as from 1 January 2010 for annual sales of €90m, a figure which will be very widely distributed within the national industrial sector.

01 Dec 09. RESON of has delivered a SeaBat 7112 system to Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei (WASS) of Italy, part of the Finmeccanica group of companies. The system will be used in conjunction with other WASS and SELEX systems as part of a harbor security System. SeaBat 7112 multibeam sonar system for diver detection consists of a circular array and projector ensonifying a cylindrical volume of water up to 1000 meters range. Designed to detect small targets such as divers with closed circuit re-breather equipment, the systems will track and alert operators of their presence on a geo-referenced map of the area.

24 Nov 09. Sonar 2093: Exported to Italy. Thales announced (24 Nov 09) that a “significant” contract had been signed with Intermarine to supply
Sonar 2093 for eight of the Italian Navy’s Gaeta Class Minehunters. The majority of the manufacturing work will be undertaken at Thales UK’s Templecombe site. Contract value was not made public.
Comment: Sonar 2093 is a variable-depth sonar, designed for the detection and classification of bottom and moored mines. The system is in service with the RN Sandown Class Minehunters, where it its currently being upgraded. HMS PEMBROKE is the first in the Class to receive the gyro heading and attitude sensor upgrade. 26 Nov 09. Thales has been selected to be the main contractor on the project that will see the “Berlin” and “Frankfurt am Main” supply ships (EGVs) equipped with a new radar system for air surveillance and helicopter guidance. Thales was also chosen to install the same radar
technology and additionally will provide the command and control system and the internal communication system on the “Bonn”, a third EGV scheduled for launch in 2012.

30 Nov 09. Alenia Aermacchi (AAEM) has awarded CAE a contract to design and manufacture a M-346 full-mission simulator and a M-346 part-task trainer as part of the M-346 ground-based training system for the Italian Air Force. The value of this contract was included in the series of military contracts CAE announced on October 22, 2009.
