17 Nov 09. MB Aerospace Ltd announced details of a US $30m extension to its contract with the Boeing Company in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The contract, which will run until 2013, will see MB Aerospace supply torpedo and deck launch systems for the Boeing Harpoon programme and it will run concurrently with existing orders for the supply of deck launch systems. It is a significant extension to the company’s order book with Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, and it will be managed by MB Aerospace’s plant in Burnley which specialises in the supply chain management, integration and assembly of defence systems for a range of global defence contractors.

17 Nov 09. Eurofighter GmbH has signed a €600m deal to provide support to the Italian Air Force’s Typhoons for five years, the consortium said in a statement Nov. 17. The contract was signed with the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency, while the support work will be headed up by Italy’s Alenia Aeronautica – a Eurofighter consortium member – supported by Selex Galileo, Selex Communications and Elettronica.

17 Nov 09. Alliant Techsystems has received a $20m contract to provide 30mm PGU-46/B High Explosive Incendiary (HEI) ammunition for the ATK-produced Mk44 30mm cannon on the multi-role, MC-130W Combat Spear gunship, which will support operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Contracting Office at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio awarded the contract. ATK will produce the ammunition at the company’s facilities in Radford, Va. and Rocket Center, W.Va. Deliveries will be complete in December 2010.

09 Nov 09. Alliant Techsystems has received an additional $93m in orders for small caliber ammunition from the U.S. Army Sustainment Command in Rock Island, Ill. These orders are for 5.56mm, 7.62mm and .50-caliber ammunition that will be produced by ATK at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, Mo. ATK, with its expertise in delivering high quality and best value, is the largest supplier of ammunition to the United States military. ATK has also expanded its global footprint, and is a leading provider of ammunition to U.S. allies. ATK began operating the LCAAP in 2000, where it produces a mix of 5.56mm, 7.62mm, .50-caliber, and 20mm cartridges, as well as ammunition links. Working in partnership with the Army, ATK has expanded manufacturing capacity at LCAAP and is also under contract to modernize the facility. The company delivered 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition produced at LCAAP in FY09.

17 Nov 09. The US Army has awarded a $430m contract to Alion Science and Technology to support Army research and development (R&D) of military manned and unmanned ground vehicles. Under the five-year contract, the company will provide systems engineering, integration capabilities and R&D support to the army’s Tank-Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC). Alion will support TARDEC’s processes, which include power and mobility, survivability, intelligent ground systems, force projection and system software, as well as vehicle electronics and architecture. 16 Nov 09. BAE Systems has received a $42m U.S. Army contract to produce bar armor kits that protect soldiers in ground vehicles from rocket-propelled grenade attacks. The company will produce L-ROD® bar armor kits for the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command’s RG-31 and Cougar mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles. L-ROD bar armor is a lightweight, modular bar armor system made of an aluminium alloy that provides protection against rocket-propelled grenades, or RPGs, without compromising the operational capabilities of the vehicle or adding significant weight.
