09 Sep 09. ITT Corporation has been awarded a $16.6m follow-on order from the UK MoD for the Head Mounted Night Vision System (HMNVS). The award is a follow-on order to the $23m contract awarded to ITT in August 2008, to continue to supply the U.K military with HMNVS and in-support services.

11 Sep 09. The Italian Army is to award a €18.8m contract to the defence company Oto Melara for the provision of 64 Hitrole Light remote controlled gun turrets for the army’s light multirole vehicles (LMV). Under the contract, announced at the Defence Systems & Equipment International 2009 in London, the company will equip the army’s Iveco LMVs with remote-controlled gun turrets with interchangeable 12.7mm and 7.62mm machine guns, as well as a 40mm grenade launcher. The turrets feature a thermal camera, laser range finder and TV camera supplied by the defence electronics company Selex Galileo. Deliveries are expected to be complete by early 2011. 09 Sep 09. Saft, world specialist in the design and manufacture of high-tech batteries for industry, has won an order worth in excess of £3.7m from the United Kingdom MoD)for BA 5590 primary lithium military battery packs, to be delivered between October and December 2009. The BA 5590 battery packs are designed to power various military radio communication devices and other vital systems, such as battle field surveillance and night sights. They comprise 10 Saft LO 26 SX cells, housed in a robust plastic case, and connected in two groups of five cells in series, providing two nominal 12 V sections at the connector with a capacity of 15 Ah. These sections can be connected in series, for 24 V, in parallel for 12 V, or used as two separate 12 V units.

Rockwell Collins has been selected by the UK MoD to provide significant additional FireStorm targeting systems to help UK Forward Air Controllers and Forward Artillery Observers to accurately direct aircraft and artillery to their targets. The order also includes spares to support overall system deployments in Afghanistan. The Rockwell Collins FireStorm system provides combat-proven situational awareness through integrated precision targeting, enabling ground personnel to seamlessly operate with airborne assets. Dedicated to supporting the dynamic and changing warfighting environment, the FireStorm system offers flexible solutions for ground targeting, air support and call for fire missions. The FireStorm system is comprised of a lightweight, fully integrated, mission configurable suite of hardware and software including tablet PC, Laser Range Finder, real-time video receiver, a Rockwell Collins Azimuth Augmentation system, Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR) and tactical radio.

07 Sep 09. MoD Selects Roke for advanced manpack. Electronic Warfare Programme. The UK MoD has awarded the Project SEER UOR contract to Roke Manor Research Ltd (Roke) to provide the next-generation Land Electronic Warfare (EW) Manpack programme for British Land Forces. The Roke solution is based on its state-of-the-art MOTS, ‘RESOLVE’ EW Manpack product, which incorporates a fully integrated range of Roke sensors, antennas and software applications. This integrated approach enables the system to be configured to meet specific operational requirements as part of the MoD’s ongoing commitment to enhancing ISTAR support for UK Forces. Upon delivery during the first quarter of 2010, Project SEER will provide integrated Electronic Surveillance (ES) and Electronic Attack (EA) capability for the UK armed forces. The scalable and networked manpack system will exploit many types of enemy communications in real-time, and provides UK Forces with enhanced Land EW capabilities.
